CIF-SS GIRLS BASKETBALL FINALS

FRIDAY’S GAMES

DIVISION 8

Orange (15-11) vs. Schurr (15-14) at Toyota Arena, 2 p.m.

Outlook: Orange, ranked 28th in the playoff bracket, has reached its first section final behind guard Aubrey Macedo. The junior averages a team-leading 17.9 points. Junior Jalyssa Loatman is averaging 10 rebounds in the playoffs for Orange, the runner-up to Bolsa Grande in Grove League. Schurr finished second in the Almont League to Mark Keppel, a quarterfinalist in Division 3. No. 14 Schurr is paced by sophomore guard Valerie Sepulveda. The Spartans also have reached their first final.

DIVISION 3

St. Margaret’s (25-7) vs. Murrieta Valley (20-11) at Toyota Arena, 4 p.m.

Outlook: St. Margaret’s, ranked seventh in the division, has advanced to its third section final in four seasons. Freshman forward Jayden Witten averages a team-high 15.8 points followed by senior guards Taylor Francois (13.4) and Lila Wohlgemuth (13.1). Francois averages seven rebounds while Wohlgemuth is a dangerous 3-point shooter. St. Margaret’s, the third-place team from the challenging Pacific Coast League, won Division 5AA in 2023 and placed second to JSerra in Division 3A in 2024. No. 17 Murrieta Valley is led senior point guard Valerie Lauritzen (18.6 ppg).

DIVISION 6

Savanna (17-13) vs. Warren (22-9) at Azusa Pacific University, 4 p.m. 

Outlook: Savanna overcame losses in the semifinals the past two seasons to reach its first section final. Ranked No. 21st in the playoff bracket, the Rebels are led by senior guards Camaila Carigma (16 ppg), Dyanna Cruz (15 ppg) and Jazara Madrid (11 ppg). Cruz averages seven rebounds and three assists for the Coast League champion. No. 18 Warren, the champion of the Mid-Cities League, is paced by forward Aliyah Lopez and guard Mia De La Cruz.

DIVISION 4

El Dorado (18-14) vs. La Cañada (19-12) at Azusa Pacific University, 8 p.m.

Outlook: Third-seeded El Dorado, an at-large entry from the difficult Crestview League, has advanced to its first section final since a runner-up finish in 2015. The Golden Hawks last claimed a section title in 1976. Delaney Shiring, a senior guard/forward committed to Pomona-Pitzer, leads El Dorado in scoring (16.8 ppg) and rebounding (9.6 rpg). Guards Kennedy Wood (9.4 ppg) and Riley Morikawa (7.7 ppg) provide support. No. 9 La Canada is led by guard Diya Ahir, a 5-foot sophomore.

SATURDAY’S GAME 

DIVISION 7

Laguna Hills (17-10) vs. Kennedy (19-12) Azusa Pacific University, 6 p.m.

Outlook: Kennedy has reached its first section final behind standout freshman Ta’Niya Paul. The 6-foot forward averages 16.5 points, 16.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists. Senior Liz Tirona (10.7 ppg) and sophomore Alyssa LaCorte (7.3 ppg) are Kennedy’s top-scoring guards. The Fighting Irish beat Laguna Hills by an average of 23.5 points in the teams’ two games in the Golden West League. Laguna Hills is 4-0 in section championship games under veteran coach Jim Martin. The Hawks’ last title was in 2012. Senior Cameron McDermott leads Laguna Hills in scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (9.7 rpg). Freshman Keira McDermott (11.7 ppg) and senior Marisol Bahena-Torres (7.1 ppg) are other key scorers. Laguna Hills and Kennedy were seeded No. 25 and No. 26, respectively, in the bracket.
