Max Scherzer is Headed Back to the Toronto Blue Jays ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

I’m a bit surprised that the Atlanta Braves didn’t make a serious run at him given their rash of injuries and otherwise deeply competitive roster, but Max Scherzer is finally signing.

And he’s headed back to Toronto:

Max Scherzer is returning to the Blue Jays, as @JonHeyman first reported. $3m in base a salary with up to $10m in incentives. Last week, @bnicholsonsmith mentioned talks had picked up.

It’s an exceedingly modest deal for the future Hall of Famer, which will presumably pay him those incentives depending on how many starts he ultimately makes.

Scherzer, 41, made 17 starts last year for the Blue Jays, and limped to a 5.19 ERA (4.99 FIP) over 85.0 innings. He was better in the postseason in three brief appearances, though, and I wouldn’t bet against him being a useful pitcher over half-ish of a season in 2026. It’ll be interesting to see if the Blue Jays and Scherzer work on a deliberately slowed ramp-up to the season so that he will become available sometime after the season starts (and they can more carefully choose when/where/how to deploy him).

Entertainment awaits. He’s still Max Scherzer out there when he’s feeling fresh:
