Retired pro basketball star Lamar Odom has completed a 30-day treatment program for substance abuse.

Odom, 46, checked out of a rehab program in Los Angeles, Us Weekly confirmed on Wednesday, February 25.

“He’s out of rehab as of this afternoon. He was there for 30 days,” his rep told Us in a statement. “He went to stop smoking marijuana completely and he was afraid it might lead to something else. He wanted to reset. He looks amazing and feels amazing.”

According to Rodriguez, Odom sought treatment for marijuana use over fears it would lead to something else

Odom recently appeared on the “Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady” podcast, where he claimed his decision-making went “off the rails” once he started using marijuana.

How Lamar Odom's Co-Occurring Disorders Contributed to His 2015 Overdose

“My father was a heroin addict. If you start with pot and it doesn’t get high no more, you’re like, ‘Maybe I’ll try cocaine,’” he said during the podcast episode, which premiered on Wednesday. “[I started smoking at] like 14, 15. Then trauma, too. My mom died when I was 12 years old. So when your mom dies and you’re in New York City, [it’s tough]. Good thing I was protected by my neighborhood.”

Odom explained that he started to “explore” various substances once he lost his mom.

“My family lived in the same neighborhood since 1957, so I don’t think nobody would let me turn to drugs or shootin’ a gun but you’re gonna explore when you don’t have your mom anymore,” he said. “Part of me was like, ‘F*** it,’ and then part of me was, like, ‘I gotta really get it done and do it for everybody.’”

Us Weekly confirmed in January that Odom was arrested for driving under the influence, speeding and executing an improper lane change. Odom was released on bail several hours later, weeks before voluntarily entering an in-patient treatment facility.

“After a recent incident, he took a step back to reflect and address triggers he’s been dealing with,” manager Gina Rodriguez told Us Weekly in a statement last month. “He’s taking full responsibility and choosing to be proactive about his wellbeing. “Lamar is grateful for the support and is committed to moving forward in a healthy, positive way.”

Odom initially began experimenting with hard drugs, including cocaine, before retiring from the NBA in 2015.

“I’ll keep it real with you, I loved drugs. You’re talking to a real addict,” Odom said on the “Cousins” podcast. “I sniffed cocaine. If I ain’t gotta play ball, I don’t have any responsibilities.”

While Odom claimed he would be sober during NBA seasons, he would experiment with drugs in the off-seasons.

“The addict mind, you’re going to think, ‘How are you going to beat the system,’ so that was my way of beating the system was partying hard in the summertime,” he said. “I shot a reality show in-season, that means I was playing in the game, winning 6th Man of the Year award and shooting a reality show. I knew I had the grit and the makeup especially if you put me on the spot I’m gonna get it done but I think about overall legacy and greatness, yeah, I hurt that by using drugs.”

He continued, “I’m gonna stand on that. I think about my life and the ups and the downs, I probably been put here to do something more than just play basketball ‘cause what I’ve been through.”

Lamar Odom Recalls Having 1 Drink Before Coma, Thinks He Was Slipped Drugs

Odom suffered an overdose at a legal brothel in Las Vegas in 2015 and was left comatose.

“I wanted to get out and have a good time,” Odom exclusively told Us Weekly in 2017. “Looking back, I might have had a drink to get the mood started, but was I drunk or on drugs? Not at all. I remember lying in bed. Two women were in bed and then I fell asleep. That’s all. When I woke up four days later, I was trying to pull the tubes out of my mouth.”

Odom’s then-wife Khloé Kardashian withdrew her divorce petition in order to serve as Odom’s caretaker. Kardashian 41, refiled for divorce after the NBA alum recovered, and the proceedings were finalized in 2016.
