Project Hail Mary, based on the novel of the same title by Andy Weir, follows Ryan Gosling as Dr. Ryland Grace, a junior high school teacher turned astronaut, who goes on a one-way mission to save Earth from a solar-dimming microorganism called "Astrophage," which is causing the Sun's energy output to drop by 10-15%, and will eventually trigger a new ice age and kill life on Earth.

The movie, which is set to be released in theaters on March 20, was produced and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Other cast in the film include Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Milana Vayntrub, James Ortiz and Priya Kansara.

Ryan Gosling promotes the upcoming film "Project Hail Mary" at the Amazon MGM Studios presentation during CinemaCon, the official convention of Cinema United.

"It’s gorgeous, full of heart and Gosling is spectacular. He gave his all to this one and you’ll be in awe," Tomasso continued. "If you’ve fallen out of love with going to the movies, I promise this one will win you back."

"Project Hail Mary absolutely floored me," journalist Kevin Verma wrote. "Lord and Miller deliver a space odyssey that is deeply human and heartwarming. Ryan Gosling is fantastic here and brings emotion and charm to this SciFi epic. Incredible visuals and a pulsing score. You wanna see this one in @IMAX."

"PROJECT HAIL MARY has one of the best third acts I've ever seen. I was on the verge of tears for the last 40 minutes," freelance film critic Brandon Norwood revealed.

Collider's Adam Blevins even compared Gosling's upcoming project to the 2014 film Interstellar, which is widely considered one of the best sci-fi films of the 21st century. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Timotheé Chalmet, Mackenzie Foy and Michael Caine, and directed by Christopher Nolan, Interstellar starts with Professor Brand (Caine), a brilliant NASA physicist, working on plans to save mankind by transporting Earth's population to a new home via a wormhole. But first, he sends Cooper (McConaughey), Dr. Amelia Brand (Hathaway), Professor Romilly (David Gyasi) and Doyle (Wes Bentley) through the wormhole, where time is heavily dilated.

Project Hail Mary will be out in theaters nationwide on March 20.
