WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” last Friday, ruling they were imposed illegally without congressional approval. This decision has prompted calls for taxpayer refunds.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said the tariffs have cost the average New York household $4,200 annually. She is urging the administration to return more than $130 billion collected from American small businesses and consumers.
“New York’s factories and manufacturing jobs are getting hammered as well,” said Gillibrand. “From raising prices on critical materials like steel and aluminum to disrupting the supply chain we rely on, the president’s tariffs are putting good paying jobs at risk.”
Gillibrand said the tariffs have led to increased prices on groceries, gas, building costs, and household goods.
Gov. Kathy Hochul made a similar demand for refunds.
