2026 University Interscholastic League 5A State Swimming and Diving Championships
Feb. 21, 2026 Austin, TX SCY (25 yards) ResultsIt was another record-setting performance for Boerne Champion junior Kate Canales at the University Interscholastic League 5A State Swimming and Diving Championships.
Committed to Florida, Canales broke her own 5A state record in the 100 breast, putting up a time of 1:00.44 to knock off her previous mark of 1:00.79 set at last year’s meet.
Canales also won the 100 fly in a time of 54.10 and was a part of a 200 medley relay team that broke its own state record from last year.
The team of Karly Whitehead (26.18), Canales (27.47), Addison Graham (26.43) and Cora Skoog (23.00) won in a time of 1:43.08, breaking the old 5A record of 1:43.79.
There was also an individual event record broken in the boys’ competition.
Gunnar Hansen, a senior from Lubbock who has committed to Alabama, broke the 5A and state record in the 100 breast with a time of 52.62. The time was actually off his personal best of 52.46 set back in December.
In the team race, A&M Consolidated won its first title in school history by finishing four points ahead of runner-up Prosper Walnut Grove.
A&M Consolidated entered the 400 free relay needing a 3rd-place finish or better to clinch the title, and did so by finishing 2nd in the event.

In addition to Canales, Skoog also had two individual wins for Boerne Champion.
Committed to Texas A&M, Skoog was the sprint freestyle queen, taking the 50 free in 23.44 and the 100 free in 50.61. Both times were personal bests.
In the 400 free relay, Skoog (51.83), Whitehead (52.62), Graham (53.24) and Canales (49.50) teamed up to win that relay in 3:27.19 to go along with their record performance in the 200 medley relay.
The 200 free relay was won by Frisco Centennial’s team of Mackenzie Corbin (24.82), Veronica Shofran (23.59), Dylan Volk (25.07) and Shanzay Tufail (23.30) in 1:36.78.
The other multi-event winner of the meet was McKkinney North sophomore Courtney Cusack.
After finishing 2nd in the 200 free last year, Cusack came back to win that event this year in a time of 1:49.93. Cusack later added a title in the 500 free, coming in with a time of 4:52.08.
Other individual winners were:
A&M consolidated junior Brooklyn Poole won the 200 IM in 2:04.42. Elizabeth Bircher of Austin LASA won the diving event with 438.05 points. Brooke Frushour, a junior from Leander who has committed to Rutgers, won the 100 back in 54.17.Girls Team Standings — Top 5

Leading the way for A&M Consolidated was senior Nate Sherrard, who won the 100 free in 44.93 and was a part of a winning team in the 200 medley relay.
The quartet of Jaden Kwok (23.52), Neal Pang (25.61), Kolby Martin (22.15) and Sherrard (20.44) won that event in 1:31.72.
In the 400 free relay, Walnut Grove’s team of Grayden Barker (45.22), Nathaniel Washburn (46.72), Joey Kerman (50.48) and Carter Ranc (41.16) made a bid to overtake A&M Consolidated in the final team standings by winning that event in 3:03.58.
But A&M Consolidated’s squad of Martin, Jaden Kwok, Logan Kwok and Sherrard easily took 2nd by nearly five seconds to hold on.
The 200 free relay was won by Austin Anderson’s team of Ben Jaggers (20.77), Gus Lott (21.99), Brandon Farrens (21.13) and Tyler Farrens (20.87) in 1:24.76.
Individually, the two standouts were Woodrow Wilson senior Landon Fike and Colleyville Heritage junior Aiden Tokarski.
Fike won the 50 free in a personal best 20.03 and later won the 100 fly in 48.10 to improve on a 2nd-place finish last year.
Tokarski won the 200 free in 1:37.59 and then captured the 500 free in 4:26.66.
Other individual winners were:
Barker, a senior for Prosper Walnut who has committed to BYU, won the 200 IM in 1:48.21. He swam that event this year after winning the 100 fly and 500 free last year. Barker was 3rd in the 100 fly this year. Daniel Henry, a senior from Mansfield Timbervfiew, won the 1-meter diving event with 533.00 points. Jaggers, a junior for Austin Anderson who has committed to Arizona State, repeated as champion in the 100 back with a time of 47.70.Boys’ Team Standings — Top 5
