Matas’ Career-High WASTED by Bulls’ 10th Straight Loss: Hornets 131, Bulls 99 — February 24, 2026 ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Members of the Chicago Blackhawks, Bears, and even WWE were in attendance to watch the Chicago Bulls’ tank reach a new peak tonight: ten straight losses.

On Coby White’s return to the United Center, the Bulls played a great tribute video for the former lottery pick, and also left him with his first win as a Hornet. Who said the Bulls aren’t a great franchise?

But seriously, I’m all for tanking, but are we actually about to witness Chicago chase a franchise record? If that’s the case, and it ends with a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, then I’ll trust this vision for a little while longer.

The Moment the Bulls Lost the Game

I’m getting used to two different versions of the Bulls playing two different halves. A team that can stand toe-to-toe with the best the East can offer, and one that lies on the floor and lets teams walk over them. Over the last three games, including tonight, the second half has been where the game slips away.

The Hornets started the third quarter with a 15–5 run, giving them the biggest lead of the night. The Bulls always come out slow after the half, getting reliant on a three-point shot that’s not falling, just because they made a few in the first half. Fool’s gold they call it and good teams know how to take advantage of that.

This run got crazy very quickly. Kon Knueppel, the frontrunner for ROTY, hit back-to-back threes, taking his tally to over 200 threes made in his rookie season. He’s only the second player ever to do that, but with the momentum and streak he’s on, that record feels like it has its days numbered.

kon makes history as the first Hornet EVER and the 15th player in NBA history to have 200 3PM within 60 games in a season ⭐️ and is the fastest player in NBA history to reach 200 career 3PM!@Kon2Knueppel | @Lowes | ? @FDSN_Hornets pic.twitter.com/7ZGlTNN6aJ

With those threes, a Bulls four minute drought and playmaking from Kon, the lead ballooned to 24, forcing Billy to call timeouts in an attempt to cool them down.

The Bulls couldn’t climb out of that hole, and with it, taking their losing streak to new lows.

Key Stats and Takeaways

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, six lead changes, four ties. No big leads were created, no real advantage formed. The one thing that was clearly notable was seeing Coby White playing his first minutes and scoring his first points for the Charlotte Hornets. Watching him in something that isn’t Bulls red or UNC blue will take a bit of time to get used to. But seeing him play free, create some great assists, and run the bench unit offense was definitely a great sight to see. He finished with 10 points and four assists off the bench.

— Charlotte Hornets (@hornets) February 25, 2026 A 14–2 run to start the second quarter gave Chicago its first real push away from the Hornets. Tank Commanders Collin Sexton and Patrick Williams were the architects of it, combining for 13 of the 14 points during that stretch. That gave the Bulls their biggest lead of the game at nine, but they weren’t able to hold it, as the Hornets answered with an 11–0 run of their own to end the half, leaving Chicago clinging to a one-point lead.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 25, 2026 Matas Buzelis delivered a first-half performance that reminded everyone what this team needs to build around. A 16-point half, just one short of his career high for points in a half. He had putback dunks and kept the Bulls afloat for a bit, against a team much better than the one he’s on. Despite a very unfavorable result, Matas was the bright spot. He carried the momentum from his insane first half all the way to a career-high 32 points and seven rebounds.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 25, 2026 The game got ugly and borderline unwatchable in the second half. The Hornets stung the Bulls with points off turnovers and fast break buckets. They made Chicago pay for every mistake, digging them into a near 40-point hole. Chicago only started to make some noise in the garbage minutes of the fourth quarter, after the Hornets emptied their bench. Just enough to save face for the box score watchers. Josh Giddey has not looked good at all since his return. Ignoring his one stat-pad night against the Pistons, he’s now had three terrible performances. Tonight, he finished with eight points on three-of-eleven shooting. He also added five turnovers and a plus/minus of -22. If he hasn’t properly recovered, Chicago needs to find a reason to shut him down for the season and let him get back to the form we saw from him in 2025. The last thing you want to give fans is another reason to lose hope on the franchise. With a tenth-straight loss, the Chicago Bulls are on the fourth worst losing streak in franchise history and worst one since 2019. The tank is well and truly on.
