ASU set their second men’s meet record of the night, again breaking their own 2025 mark in the 800 free relay after doing so in the 200 medley relay earlier tonight. The quartet of Filip Senc-Samardzic, Jonny Kulow, Quin Seider, and Rémi Fabiani combined for a time of 6:08.31, knocking 0.23 seconds off their winning time from last season.

At the halfway point the Sun Devils trailed an Arizona team who have put together a strong 800 free relay over the last couple of years, as Ralph Daleiden (1:33.01) and Tomas Lukminas (1:31.37) led the way for the Wildcats. Senc-Samardzic led off with the fastest opening split for ASU in 1:32.87, before Kulow swam 1:32.56 as they went into the third leg a second behind Arizona.

Quin Seider used a stellar second 100 to close that gap, coming back in 47.18 to split 1:32.00, 0.28 seconds faster than he went on this relay last year, before Rémi Fabiani stormed home in 1:30.88 to pull away from Arizona for a comfortable win. 6:08.31 to 6:12.65.

The 200 free is a relatively new event for grad transfer Fabiani. His lifetime best prior to the 2025-26 season stood at the 1:33.72 he swam back in 2023 to win the Western Athletic Conference Championships, back when he swam at Cal Baptist. He has dropped well over two seconds this season, notching 1:31.23 back in November, and currently ranks 6th in the NCAA.

Fabiani’s anchor was the difference maker for the Sun Devils this year, nearly a second faster than Patrick Sammon was on the fourth leg in 2025. Senc-Samardzic slid onto the leadoff after going third last year, while Kulow replaced 2025 leadoff Tiago Behar. Kulow set a flat-start best of 1:32.41 at last year’s Big 12 Championships, but was 1:32.56 on a flying start tonight.

ASU’s school record stands at the 6:04.95 they swam to place 2nd at the 2024 NCAA Championships, Leon Marchand set an NCAA record of 1:28.97 leading off that relay, becoming the first man to break 1:29, before Hubert Kos (1:32.29), Patrick Sammon (1:31.91) and Julian Hill (1:31.78) led them home. All four of those swimmers have now graduated, and three (Marchand, Kos, and Sammon) are either individual or relay world champions.
