NFL wide receiver Rondale Moore was found dead Saturday night from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. He was 25.
Moore was found dead inside a garage in his hometown of New Albany, Ind., according to the local police chief, Todd Bailey. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday to confirm Moore’s cause of death.
In the past two NFL seasons, Moore suffered devastating preseason injuries that ended his seasons before they could start. In 2024, he dislocated his right knee in training camp with the Atlanta Falcons.
The following year with the Minnesota Vikings, he was carted off in the team’s first preseason game after tearing the ACL in his left knee on a punt return. Moore appeared to be in tears at the time and slammed the cart in frustration as he left the field.

So much left to give. Rest in Peace Rondale.”
Before his NFL career, Moore was a star wide receiver at Purdue University in college and was named an All-American for his outstanding freshman year in 2018. That year, Moore memorably totaled 194 yards and two touchdowns in an upset of No. 2 Ohio State.
Though his following two collegiate seasons were cut short by injury, the Arizona Cardinals selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played three seasons for the team, catching 135 passes for 1,201 yards and three touchdowns. The Cardinals traded him to Atlanta before the 2024 season.
“Rondale Moore was a complete joy to coach. The ultimate competitor who wouldn’t back down from any challenge,” Moore’s former coach at Purdue, Jeff Brohm, wrote on social media. “We all loved Rondale, we loved his smile and his competitive edge that always wanted to please everyone he came in contact with.”
