The Chicago Bulls’ belated tank during the home stretch of the 2025-26 season has gotten a sad assist from some distressing health developments.
Chicago announced that reserve center Zach Collins, who’s been out since late December, will miss the rest of the year for a season-ending surgery on his sprained right big toe.
The oft-hurt big man was acquired as part of Chicago’s Zach LaVine trade return package last year, and provided some solid rim protection and floor spacing when he did play. This season, Collins appeared in just 10 games, averaging 9.7 points on .578/.429/.700 shooting splits, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Collins is on an expiring $18.1 million deal. When available, he’s a productive contributor. But the 28-year-old gets hurt too much to be reliable, and no longer matches the rebuilding Bulls’ developmental timeline. His tenure in Chicago is likely over.

But he’s not the only Chicago player to get a frustrating update. After fill-in head coach Wes Unseld Jr. claimed Jaden Ivey was a healthy scratch during Thursday’s 110-101 loss to the Toronto Raptors, it was quickly revealed that the former No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft has been struggling through long-term left knee soreness, and finally sat out of a practice Friday as the knee got looked at. Now we learn Ivey will be sidelined for at least two weeks before being re-evaluated.Bulls announce Zach Collins will undergo season-ending surgery on his toeJaden Ivey (left knee soreness) will be re-evaluated in two weeks pic.twitter.com/emIQ2yzE9G
— Will Gottlieb (@Will_Gottlieb) February 21, 2026 Across his first four contests for Minnesota, former Bull Ayo Dosunmu has been averaging 12.3 points on .488/.333/1.000 shooting splits, 2.8 assists, 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals a night. University of Illinois and Lincoln Park High School alum Terrence Shannon Jr. reflected on his fellow native Chicagoan joining him on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ bench from the Bulls at this year’s trade deadline.Terrence Shannon Jr on having a fellow Chicago kid on the roster in Ayo Dosunmu“It feels good having Ayo here… him playing at Illinois I always try to follow his footsteps… I talked to him when he got traded, I didn’t know at first honestly(laughs) until Donte asked me like… pic.twitter.com/DncnYDtFcX
— Andrew Dukowitz (@adukeMN) February 20, 2026 The Bulls announced Friday that newly acquired small forward Leonard Miller, brother to former two-way signing Emanuel, has been assigned to Chicago’s NBAGL affiliate in Hoffman Estates, the Windy City Bulls. The Bulls’ trade deadline moves have now made 21-year-old second-year forward Matas Buzelis one of the club’s longest-tenured players. He told Cyro Asseo of HoopsHype in a new interview how he’s trying to develop as a leader.“I talked to Billy about it, how I need to be more vocal as a player and I need to speak to guys,” Buzelis said. “You know, guys don’t know sets, guys don’t know the defense and I have to be more vocal every time I step on the court to try to help my team win. And you know, I feel like I have, I wouldn’t say pressure, but I can’t find the word right now, I have to talk to everybody more. I have to be communicating on defense for us and also put on an example in the gym of, you know, how I work. And that’s all it takes for some guys, just to see how guys work and they can put it into their game.”
