Thursday Finals Heat Sheet

Thursday Ups/Mids/Downs Scoring Projection

Although it’s only Day 2, Michigan looks to be primed to run away with the Big Ten title, as the Wolverines won 3 events on the day and took silver in whatever they didn’t win. Bella Sims dominated the 400 IM with a new meet record, while Letitia Sim dipped under the 58 barrier for the first time to take gold in the 100 breast.

The sole non-Wolverine winners were Indiana’s star freshmen Alex Shackell and Liberty Clark, who won the 100 fly and 200 free, respectively. The two then returned to the pool for the 200 free relay, where they ultimately finished 2nd behind Michigan—who broke the standing Big Ten record in the event.

Linked below are the race videos from tonight’s session.

WOMEN’S 100-YARD BUTTERFLY – FINAL

NCAA Record: 46.97 – Gretchen Walsh, UVA (2025) Big Ten Record: 48.89 – Maggie MacNeil, MICH (2019) Big Ten Meet Record: 49.42 – Maggie MacNeil, MICH (2020) 2026 NCAA Qualifying Time: 52.52 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 51.87

Top 8 Finishers:

Alex Shackell (Indiana) – 49.95 Brady Kendall (Michigan) – 50.53 Miranda Grana (Indiana) – 50.69 Lexi Greenhawt (Michigan) – 51.00 Leila Fack (Michigan) – 51.45 Jada Duncan (UCLA) – 51.50 Beatrix Tanko (Nebraska-Lincoln) – 51.75 Anna Vlachou (Rutgers) – 52.15

Indiana freshman Alex Shackell led the 100 butterfly from start to finish, opening in 23.21 before closing in 26.74 to grab the win in 49.95, her second time breaking the 50-second barrier.

Michigan senior Brady Kendall made it two years in a row finishing as the runner-up, clocking a personal best 50.53 after splitting 23.47 and 27.06 to hold second the entire way.

Despite a more subdued opening 50, defending champion Miranda Grana of Indiana clawed from sixth at the turn to bronze, turning in the only other sub-51 of the final at 50.69 on the strength of the second-fastest back half of the race at 26.80.

Shackell’s personal best remains the 49.49 she produced at Winter Juniors in December 2023, though her time tonight slots her equal third in the NCAA standings.

Kendall’s 50.53 eclipsed her former best of 50.98 from November’s CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge, and moves her up to #8 in the nation so far this season.

Grana, whose lifetime best of 49.98 from the Ohio State Invite in November made her the top seed entering the meet, will look to reset heading into the backstroke events. That time situates her fifth heading into the NCAA Championships next month.

CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:

WOMEN’S 400-YARD INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY – FINAL

NCAA Record: 3:54.60 – Ella Eastin, STAN (2018) Big Ten Record: 3:58.02 – Bella Sims, MICH (2025) Big Ten Meet Record: 4:01.41 – Allysa Vavra, IU (2012) 2026 NCAA Qualifying Time: 4:13.20 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 4:09.53

Top 8 Finishers:

Bella Sims (Michigan) – 4:00.57 *Meet Record* Hannah Bellard (Michigan) – 4:03.32 Rosie Murphy (UCLA) – 4:04.08 Justina Kozan (USC) – 4:04.77 Sienna Angove (Ohio State) – 4:06.51 Gena Jorgenson (Nebraska-Lincoln) – 4:07.84 Stella Chapman (Wisconsin) – 4:09.84 Katie McCarthy (Minnesota) – 4:10.02

It wasn’t quite the 3:58.02 national-leading time she posted in early November, but Michigan junior Bella Sims didn’t need it, cruising to the 400 IM title by nearly three seconds with a meet record 4:00.57. She set the tone immediately with a 52.94 fly split, added a 1:00.94 on backstroke to hit the halfway mark in 1:53.88, before closing with a 1:10.71 breast split and a 55.98 freestyle leg.

Fellow Wolverine Hannah Bellard (4:03.32) continued her electric 2026 campaign with a personal best and runner-up finish, while UCLA senior Rosie Murphy cleared the rest of the field for bronze in a new best time of 4:04.08.

Sims’ best time remains the 3:56.59 she posted pre-college at Speedo Sectionals in La Mirada during her tenure with the Sandpipers of Nevada.

Bellard significantly improved on her seventh-place outing a year ago, and entered tonight with a personal best of 4:05.92 from November’s CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge, meaning she dropped a whopping 2.6 seconds.

Murphy dropped nearly a full second from her former best of 4:05.01 set at the 2024 NCAA Championships.

CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:

WOMEN’S 200-YARD FREESTYLE – FINAL

NCAA Record: 1:39.10 – Missy Franklin, CAL (2015) Big Ten Record: 1:40.47 – Minna Abraham, USC (2025) Big Ten Meet Record: 1:40.69 – Anna Peplowski, IU (2025) 2026 NCAA Qualifying Time: 1:45.53 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 1:44.74

Top 8 Finishers:

Liberty Clark (Indiana) – 1:40.84 Stephanie Balduccini (Michigan) – 1:42.04 Rachel Bockrath (Ohio State) – 1:42.82 Nicole Maier (USC) – 1:43.19 Maggie Wanezek (Wisconsin) – 1:43.45 Grace Hoeper (Indiana) – 1:43.99 Claire Tuggle (USC) – 1:46.07 Blair Stoneburg (Wisconsin) – 1:46.16

Continuing with tonight’s theme of early leaders reaping the reward, Indiana freshman Liberty Clark stamped her authority on the 200 freestyle from the very first stroke, opening in 23.48 before splitting a remarkably consistent 25.81, 25.85, and 25.70 on the back three 50s to come away with gold in a new personal best of 1:40.84.

Defending champion Stephanie Balduccini, a junior for the Wolverines, touched in 1:42.04 for silver, while Ohio State sophomore Rachel Bockrath was the final woman to crack 1:43, claiming bronze in 1:42.82.

Balduccini gave Clark a battle through the first half, splitting 23.85/25.56 to sit just a tenth back at the 100, but didn’t have the closing speed to match over the back half. Whether that was by design with NCAAs a month away remains to be seen.

Clark, who never broke 1:45 prior to this season, dropped 0.43 from her previous personal best of 1:41.27 from the Ohio State Invitational. Her consistency this season has been nothing short of remarkable, accumulating four swims in the 1:41-range since November. She now ranks third in the NCAA so far this season, trailing only Virginia’s Anna Moesch (1:39.72) and USC’s Minna Abraham (1:40.47), who pulled out of this meet for undisclosed personal reasons. Balduccini, who placed third in this event at last year’s NCAA Championships, owns a best time of 1:40.89 from that competition and produced her season-best 1:41.45 at the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge. Bockrath sliced a tenth off her personal best of 1:42.92 set at the Eddie Reese Showdown just last month.

WOMEN’S 100-YARD BREASTSTROKE – FINAL

NCAA Record: 55.73 — Lilly King, Indiana (2019) Big Ten Record: 55.73 – Lilly King, IU (2019) Big Ten Meet Record: 55.88 – Lilly King, IU (2019) 2026 NCAA Qualifying Time: 1:00.30 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 59.51

Top 8 Finishers:

Letitia Sim (Michigan) – 57.90 Maria Ramos (Ohio State) – 58.22 Bella Brito (USC) – 59.10 Brooke Corrigan (Wisconsin) – 59.22 Sarah Bennetts (UCLA) – 59.55 Ashley McMillan (USC) – 59.61 Hazal Ozkan (Wisconsin) – 59.84 Sarah Pasquella (Michigan) – 1:00.26

Make it four races in a row where the leader after the first 50 walked away with gold.

Michigan senior Letitia Sim opened the 100 breaststroke with a narrow lead over Ohio State sophomore Maria Ramos, 27.04 to 27.19, and held on for the win in a personal-best 57.90. Ramos touched second in 58.22, with USC freshman Bella Brito claiming bronze in 59.10.

Sim’s former best time of 58.12 was set this past November at the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge. Her swim also checks in as a new Michigan Record, tying Miranda’s Tucker’s 57.93 from 2018.

Ramos’ best time is the 58.00 she produced at the Ohio State Invite, and while she added a bit from earlier in the season, it was a nice rise from her 10th-place finish a year ago.

Brito’s swim was a season best, though she was a painstaking hundredth shy of her 59.09 PB from 2024 Winter Juniors West.

CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:

WOMEN’S 200-YARD FREESTYLE RELAY – TIMED FINAL

NCAA Record: 1:23.63 — Virginia, 2024 Big Ten Record: 1:25.80 — Ohio State, 2023 Big Ten Meet Record: 1:26.13 — Michigan, 2025 2026 NCAA ‘A’ Qualifying Time: 1:28.26 2026 NCAA ‘B’ Qualifying Time: 1:28.78 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 1:28.26

Top 8 Finishers:

Michigan – 1:25.44 *Big Ten Record* Indiana – 1:26.20 Wisconsin – 1:27.35 Ohio State – 1:27.94 UCLA – 1:28.07 Northwestern – 1:28.38 Minnesota – 1:28.40 USC – 1:28.85

The Michigan quartet of Lexi Greenhawt (21.67), Brady Kendall (20.72), Stephanie Balduccini (21.61), and Leila Fack (21.44) torched the field and the Big Ten Record in the 200 free relay, winning by 0.76.

Their time of 1:25.44 took down Ohio State’s 2023 record of 1:25.80 by 0.36. Their time as the fourth-fastest team in the nation so far this season.

Indiana gave the Wolverines a run for their money through the first 50 courtesy of Liberty Clark‘s 21.48 leadoff leg, which equaled her PB, but Michigan took the lead around the 60-yard mark and never relinquished it.

Alex Shackell (21.69), Mya Dewitt (22.08), and Kristina Paegle (20.95) closed things out for the Hoosiers as they touched with a time of 1:26.20, while Wisconsin was a clear third with their foursome of Hailey Tierney (21.85), Maggie Wanezek (21.79), Abby Wanezek (21.71), and Blair Stoneburg (21.94) clocking 1:27.35.
