Thursday night finished with a bang at the SEC Championships, with a number of the fastest relay splits in history going on the board in the men’s 400 medley relay to finish the session.

That included a 49.02 for Texas breaststroker Nate Germonprez, which is the 4th-best medley relay split in history.

Top 10 100 SCY Breaststroke Splits on a Medley Relay

100 Breast Split 1 48.73, Leon Marchand (2024 NCAAs) 2 48.85, Julian Smith (2025 NCAAs) 3 48.95, Julian Smith (2025 SECs) 4 49.02, Nate Germonprez (2026 SECs) 5 49.23, Leon Marchand (2023 NCAAs) 6 49.56, Kevin Cordes (2013 NCAAs) 7 49.60, Ian Finnerty (2019 NCAAs) 8 49.70, Liam Bell (2024 NCAAs) 9 49.73, Leon Marchand (2023 PAC-12s) 10 49.75, Will Licon (2017 NCAAs)

Germonprez combined with Will Modglin (44.23 backstroke), Hubert Kos (43.77 fly), and Camden Taylor (40.62 free) for a 2:57.64. That broke the old Tennessee Pool Record of 2:59.87 done by Arizona State in November during the CSCAA Dual Meet Tournament.

The Texas men beat the defending NCAA Champions Florida in that race, thanks in part to the breakthroughs from Germonprez and the anchor Taylor: two areas where on paper they needed to find solutions this season.

Last year at SECs, Germonprez split 50.31, and at NCAAs he split 50.49, so this is a game-changing split for Texas. His reaction time was .25 seconds, which was slower than any of the other top five relays, so he might have had a 48-point in the bag with a better exchange.

The runner-up relay for the Florida Gators, which was also under the Pool Record, featured a 42.80 in the 100 yard fly from senior Josh Liendo. That ties him as the 4th-best split in history, and he now holds four of the five best times on that list.

100 Butterfly Split 1 42.12, Josh Liendo (2025 SECs) 2 42.46, Josh Liendo (2025 NCAAs) 3 42.77, Josh Liendo (2024 SECs) 4 42.80, Ilya Kharun (2025 Eddie Reese Showdown) 4 42.80, Josh Liendo (2026 SECs) 6 42.83, Ilya Kharun (2025 NCAAs) 7 42.91, Josh Liendo (2023 NCAAs) 7 43.15, Ilya Kharun (2025 Big 12s) 9 43.15, Luca Urlando (2025 NCAAs) 10 43.16, Ilya Kharun (2026 Big 12 West Championships)

Florida touched 2nd in 2:58.49, and Liendo earlier in the night set a Meet Record in the 100 fly in 43.06.

Further down the rankings, LSU’s Jere Hribar added a 40.15 in the 100 free, which ties as the 7th-fastest flying start in the 100 free ever. He also matches Caeleb Dressel as the 3rd-best performer ever in that category.

100 Free Split 1 39.36, Jordan Crooks (2025 NCAAs) 2 39.52, Jordan Crooks (2025 SECs) 3 39.89, Jordan Crooks (2024 Tennessee Invite) 4 39.93, Jonny Kulow (2025 NCAAs) 5 39.95, Jordan Crooks (2025 NCAAs) 6 40.11, Jonny Kulow (2025 NCAAs) 7 40.15, Jere Hribar (2026 SECs) 7 40.15, Caeleb Dressel (2018 NCAAs) 9 40.17, Chris Guiliano (2024 ACCs) 10 40.20, Caeleb Dressel (2017 SECs)

That’s Hribar’s second headline-grabbing relay split of the meet: he also split 17.59 on a medley relay anchor for the Tigers on Tuesday, which is the #6 performance in history. Liendo split 17.58 on that relay.
