Two men are in custody after they allegedly fled a suburban traffic stop in a stolen vehicle and crashed on Chicago’s Near West Side.
According to Cicero police, officers attempted to pull over the vehicle in the 4900 block of West 26th Street on Monday, and the driver fled the scene.
Cicero police did not pursue the vehicle, but distributed a description to neighboring departments, including Chicago police.
A short time later, Chicago police officers spotted the vehicle, and it eventually was involved in a crash at the intersection of Oakley Avenue and West Madison at approximately 3:39 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle slammed into the side of a pickup truck that was traveling northbound through the intersection, then he and his passenger both attempted to flee the scene on foot.
The driver of the pick-up truck was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to Chicago police.
Police said the suspects were later apprehended and will now face criminal charges in the case.
