NEW YORK, N.Y. — New York State Police stayed busy over Super Bowl weekend, as troopers issued more than 8,200 tickets during a special STOP-DWI traffic enforcement.
The campaign started on Friday, Feb. 6, and ran through Sunday, Feb. 8. State Police increased patrols across the state during the campaign and did sobriety checkpoints to deter, identify, and arrest impaired drivers.
According to State Police, 642 total tickets were issued in the Finger Lakes region, 138 of them for speeding. In Western New York, 741 total tickets were issued, they say.
Statewide, State Police say 177 drivers were arrested by troopers over the weekend for DWI, and 822 crashes were investigated, including one deadly crash.

State Police say during last year’s Super Bowl enforcement campaign, over 8,663 tickets were issued and 161 drivers were arrested for DWI.
The last time State Police did a DWI crackdown was between Dec. 10, 2025 through Jan. 1, 2026, which was part of the “Drive High Get a DUI” national campaign.
During this campaign, State Police say 47,711 total tickets were issued across the state, with 4,515 total tickets issued in the Finger Lakes region.
