Virginia Tech Invitational

February 6-8, 2026 Christiansburg Aquatic Center, Christiansburg, VA SCY (25 yards) “2026 Virginia Tech Invitational” on Meet Mobile

Virginia Tech sophomore Jakub Poliacik’s performance in the 1000 freestyle highlighted the 2026 Virginia Tech Invitational, with VMI, North Carolina, James Madison, George Mason, Davidson, West Virginia, and Navy all in attendance. Virginia Tech also had four pool record falls on the weekend in addition to the program record by Poliacik.

Poliacik bested the former program record in the 1000 free held by Lane Stone at 8:57.86 from 2018, with his winning time of 8:56.52, more than eight seconds better than his lifetime best from November, 9:05.12. The pool record was also broken; it had been previously held by Florida State’s Mateo De Angulo at 8:58.97 from 2012. His teammate Lee Naber also notched a career-best and the 6th-fastest time in program history in the event, touching in 9:03.65.

In the 500 free, Poliacik also clocked a career best in 4:17.64, the 4th fastest in history, and a more than a second improvement on his 4:18.69 from January’s dual with Virginia.

Sophomore Eli Martin climbed into a tie for 16th in the nation in the 100 breaststroke after notching a career best 51.56, besting his freshly set best time from the January dual against Virginia of 51.93, and becoming the 3rd fastest performer in program history.

Hokie junior Brenden Whitfield notched a pool record in the 50 free in 18.95, his second fastest time this season, only one hundredth of a second slower than his swim at the Wolfpack Elite Invitational in November in 18.94, which ranks tied for 15th in Division I this season. The former pool record was held by Colin Wright of William & Mary, set in 2020 at 18.98. His best time of 18.89 came at the ACC Championships last season.

On the women’s side, the Virginia Tech 400 medley relay quartet of Carmen Weiler Sastre (51.81), Emily Santos Silva (1:01.11), Athena Meneses Kovacs (51.99), and Emily Claesson (48.46) swam to another pool record in 3:33.37, lowering their own 2021 mark of 3:33.91, and moving up to the 26th fastest time in Division I this season.

The Virginia Tech women’s 400 free relay also lowered their own year-old pool record of 3:15.95 with Weiler Sastre (48.02), Claesson (48.66), Fanni Gyurinovics (49.47), and Eliza Tan (49.33) combined in 3:15.48, the 24th fastest Division I time this season thus far.
