The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash prize of Rs 7.50 crore to the India U19 team following their World Cup win on Friday. Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 175 run knock coupled with impressive performances from RS Ambrish and other bowlers have powered India to the big win against England U19. History was created as Ayush Mhatre and co. lifted the sixth U19 World Cup title, the most by any team.
Rs 7.5 crore reward for Vaibhav Suryavanshi and co
As per news agency ANI, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the whole country was proud of the Indian U19 team and their efforts in the U19 World Cup as he announced the cash prize of Rs 7.50 crore.
“The whole country and BCCI are proud of our Under-19 side on their Under-19 World Cup 2026 victory. The way our team defeated England in the finals, and how they remained undefeated in the tournament, we are all proud. The BCCI will reward the team with Rs 7.50 crore cash prize,” the BCCI secretary said.
Why did ICC not give prize money to India U19 team?
“The ICC treats the U-19 World Cup as a development program for the mentorship of young cricketers, and hence it does not hand out prize money for teams. The idea behind that is the teams already receive a share of ICC revenues as a cricket development fund, and this tournament is considered cricket development; thus, rewarding them for the same again would mean a double reward,” as per Financial Express.
