Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
The University of Pennsylvania, a Division I program, that competes in the Ivy League has picked up a verbal commitment from the multi-talented Katelynn Zhou. A native of Allen, Texas, Zhou will trade the plains of Texas for hustle and bustle of Philadelphia, as she is set to make her collegiate debut this fall.
I am incredibly honored to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at the University of Pennsylvania! Special thanks to all of the people who have supported me along this journey. I’d also like to thank Coach Mike for this extraordinary opportunity. It is with great excitement that I start this next chapter with @pennswimdive. Go Quakers!

Swimming for her high school, Allen High School, Zhoe is a five-time UIL 6A State finalist, with 6A representing schools with the largest enrollments in the state. Her first-year, she placed 15th in the 50 free finals going 23.64, as well placing top 8 in two relays, finishing 6th in the 200 free relay and 5th in the 400 free relay, with her lead-off of 51.26 standing as a new personal best. A year later as a sophomore, she made the final in two separate events, going 50.98 to finish 10th in the 100 free, in addition to her runner-up finish in the 200 IM, where she claimed the silver medal in 2:01.17. Last year she slipped a little in the placings, finishing 12th in the 100 free (51.16) and 4th in the 200 IM (2:01.50) but not before going 2:00.82, a new PB, in prelims.
Zhou does not just swim for her high school as she also represents Lakeside Aquatic Club, having done so most recently at the 2025 Winter Junior Championships – West meet. Three and a half hours south, in Austin, Zhou collected a pair of top three finishes as she split 22.66 on her clubs silver medal winning 200 free relay, being joined by Natalie Schneider (22.73), Kennedi Southern (22.32) and by Olivia Colombo (23.02). She also anchored the bronze medal winning 400 free relay in 50.01 in addition to an 18th place finish in the 200 IM, with a new PB of 2:00.18.
Earlier in the year, in long course, Zhou hit multiple personal bests at the Junior National Championships, going, 26.26 in a 50 free swim-off after having been a part of a four way tie for 36th at 26.49. She also hit new PBs in the 50s of breaststroke and butterfly, going 34.00 and 28.83 respectively.
Best SCY Times:
50 Free – 23.22 100 Free – 50.91 200 Free – 1:51.56 200 Breast – 2:16.42 200 IM – 2:00.18 400 IM – 4:22.19Zhou is set to join the Mike Schnur led program this coming fall (2026) and will immediately be an impactful addition to the roster in both individual and relay events. UPenn finished 5th last year at the 2025 IVY League Championship, with 990.5 points, just eight points back of Brown.
In looking at her best times, Zhou’s 2:00.18 in the 200 IM, would have just snuck into the A-final, where she would have been 8th overall. Her 100 free PB of 50.91 would have been 19th in 2025 and her best in the 200 breast would have slotted her into the B-final in 13th place. Currently, this season her 50 free best of 23.22 would rank 3rd on the team, while her 100 free best currently would rank 6th. Last year, Penn, finished 7th in both the 200 and 400 free relays.
Slated to join Zhou on campus in the fall are Sophia Gao (Rexford, NY) and Morgan Knox (Waxhaw, NC), both of whom are strong breaststrokers. California’s Allison Liu and Hailey Preuss also are set to arrive in Philadelphia this fall, with Preuss holding strong 400 IM times, and Liu looking to make a strong training partner as she has PBs of 23.11 and 51.22 in the 50 and 100 free.
