News by : (NBC Chicago) -

U.S. figure skating stars and medal favorites Madison Chock and Evan Bates came out swinging with their first performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in the figure skating team event.

The dynamic husband-wife duo skated to a Lenny Kravitz medley for their rhythm dance performance, representing Team USA with songs like “American Woman.”

And they did not disappoint.

While the veteran pair are already gold medalists in the figure skating team event from 2022 — and the only returning members of that team in the 2026 Games — they’re also chasing their first individual gold medal — and they proved their star power in their first showing Friday.

“We love this program, we’re so excited to be kicking this off for Team USA,” Chock said ahead of the event, with the rhythm dance kicking off a series of team categories.

Bates, a Michigan native, said he was treating the performance like any other skate, tuning out the noise that comes with an Olympic performance — and it showed as the pair gracefully flowed across the ice.

The two scored the highest of the ice dance event, finishing with 91.06. The next highest was France at 89.98.

The team competitions will continue Friday with the pair’s and women’s short programs.
