Look Dine-In Cinemas close in Redlands, Downey and Monrovia ...Middle East

News by : (Los Angeles Daily News) -

Look Dine-In Cinemas has closed its multiplexes in Redlands, Downey and Monrovia, leaving customers with gift cards and subscription memberships wondering about their investments.

Customers arriving for matinees of such films as “Send Help” on Sunday, Feb. 1, witnessed the theaters beginning to shut down and then posted their experiences on social media.

A Yelp reviewer noted that the theater in Monrovia was handing out posters for “Toy Story 5,” which comes out in June.

In Redlands, moviegoers posted photos of boxes loaded for removal lining the walls of the lobby and on bar tables.

A photo tribute to the late Al Harris, a beloved greeter from the days when the place was a Krikorian theater, was taken off a wall under a grand staircase leading to upstairs restrooms.

On Monday morning, signs appeared on its doors thanking patrons and directing them to the one remaining Look theater in California, at 128 Artsakh Ave. in Glendale.

A few other locations on the East Coast remain open, according to the chain’s website.

Look Dine-In Cinemas provide full-service dining with items such as smash burgers, chicken wings, pizza, quesadillas, sundaes and fried Oreos in addition to popcorn and candy. Its bars serve cocktails and mocktails.

Its auditoriums have recliner seats equipped with trays. Moviegoers scan QR codes to view menus and order food charged to their credit cards. Servers then bring their meals and snacks to their seats.

These multiplexes were previously part of a chain called Studio Movie Grill, which had a similar system, taking out snack bars from theaters it acquired and replacing them with kitchens and waiters.

After the COVID pandemic shut down theaters and restaurants in 2020, these theaters were acquired by Brian Schultz, a founder of SMG.

Redlands was the first to open in July 2021.

Look Cinemas offer an Infinity Club, which entitles members to one movie ticket a day as well as discounts on food, non-alvoholic beverages and extra tickets. Customers can enroll in auto-renewed memberships for $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year.

Signs on the Redlands theater’s doors said that Infinity Club memberships and gift cards will be honored at the Glendale theater, about 70 miles away. It referred requests for refunds to its Guest Services department at guest.services@lookcinemas.com.

Phone calls to the theaters were not returned at press time.
