The Tigers earned their second dual meet sweep of the season, this time on senior night, with both the women’s and men’s teams coming out on top against the Salukis of Southern Illinois. The Missouri women secured a 198-91 win, while the men won in a similar fashion, topping Southern Illinois 195-97.

Women’s Recap

Missouri’s ‘I’ relay secured the first win of the meet, claiming the 200 medley crown in 1:37.13. That relay consisted of Annabelle Wentzel (25.28), Zara Zallen (26.70), Kylee Sullivan (23.13), and Francesca Smith (22.02), who led the way in a 1-2 finish to open up the meet along with Mizzou’s ‘Z’ relay in 1:37.95.

Senior Karolina Bank picked up an individual win on the day with her performance in the 100 breaststroke, clocking a season best in 59,39, notching an NCAA qualifying time, and touching just over three tenths faster than SIU’s Olivia Herron in 59.72.

Fellow senior Gabriela San Juan Carmona earned two wins on the boards with her scores of 300.75 on 1-meter and 344.85 on 3-meter.

Missouri was untouchable in the distance events, with Peyton Drexler claiming the 1000 freestyle win in 9:58.54, and Zoe Schneider later adding the 500 free to the win total in 4:46.76, leading a 1-2-3 sweep for the Tigers.

Smith also earned an individual win with her performance in the 50 free, leading a Mizzou top-three sweep in 22.63.

Libby Bakker powered to a major best time in the 100 free to earn a win for herself, touching in the only time under 50-seconds of the field in 49.64.

Maeve DeYoung also clocked a lifetime best on the day in the 200 fly; DeYoung clocked 1:58.44 to win the race by just under six seconds from the field, and was the only swimmer to swim under the 2:04 mark.

Zallen (49.03), Smith (48.90), Bank (49.24), and Bakker (49.28) closed out their senior night victory with a win in the 400 free relay for Missouri, touching nine seconds faster than the field in 3:16.45.

Herron later got her win for the Salukis with a dominating 200 breast showing, touching nearly four seconds faster than Bank (2:12.70) in 2:08.86.

Liseska Gallegos Gutierrez picked up the 100 back win for SIU, clocking her fastest swim of the season to this point in 53.75, touching just four hundredths of a second ahead of Missouri’s Sydney Bales in 53.79. She later won the 200 abc as well, touching over three seconds faster than the field in 1:57.13.

Men’s Recap

The Tigers’ ‘O’ relay of Quinlan Gould (21.61), Logan Ottke (23.70), Luke Nebrich (20.22), and Francois Malherbe (19.39) led another 1-2 finish for Mizzou in the 200 medley relay, kicking the men’s meet off with a hot start.

Jan Zubik brought two wins to the Tiger men on his senior night with a butterfly sweep. In the 100 fly, Zubik led a sweep of the top four spots in 46.60, more than a full second faster than the field. He later repeated his success in the 200 fly, touching almost three seconds better than the field in 1:42.02.

Similar to the women. Missouri earned a diving win on the day as Tommaso Zannella earned top honors on 1-meter in 340.42.

Matthew Mortenson was a double winner with his 200 breast in 1:57.34, more than five seconds ahead of the field, and later picked up the 200 IM in a season best 1:47.89, the only swimmer under 1:55 in the event.

Nebrich led another top-four sweep for the Tigers in the 50 free, dominating the field in 19.14. The Tigers had three swimmers touch under 20 seconds. He later doubled up with a 100 free win in another solid outing, finishing a second better than the field in 42.89.

Gould notched his fastest 200 back of the season in his 1:42.48 winning effort, leading the Tigers to a 1-2 finish alongside Zubik in 1:44.66.

The Tigers’ 400 free relay of Nebrich (42.56), Ethan Vance (43.55), Darden Tate (44.16), and Malherbe (42.97) put the finishing touches on Missouri’s senior day win in 2:53.24.

SIU’s Willem Huggins controlled the 100 back, touching in 47.83, ahead of Mortenson of Missouri, who notched a lifetime best 49.79 in his runner-up effort.

The Salukis found a win on the 3-meter board with Oliver Mebs earning the win in 307.50.
