Some northwest Indiana residents spent part of their Saturday morning digging out from nearly a foot of snow after a powerful lake-effect system blanketed several communities.
According to the National Weather Service, between 7.8 inches and 11 inches of snow were reported in Porter County following intense snowfall rates overnight that led to hazardous travel conditions.
Lake County also saw significant snowfall, though snow totals from Saturday morning hadn’t been released.
And the snow isn’t over yet.
The NWS said an additional two to four inches of snow, along with localized amounts of up to five inches, are possible in Lake County through the afternoon. Porter County could experience an additional one to three inches by mid-morning.
