BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Residents at the Venue II apartment complex in Brighton experienced a four-day water outage, with tenants saying it is a recurring issue. The water has since been restored, but residents say such shutoffs occur regularly, sometimes once a week.
“We lost water service Monday mid-afternoon. It came back on for about an hour in the evening, and then it hasn’t been back on until about 20 minutes ago,” said a female neighbor who asked not to appear on camera. “And it’s now 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.”
Her fiancé, who also asked not to appear on camera, said, “This type of situation was unique. Where it was three, four days straight. At least once a week, they have to shut the water off, usually during a weekday and during the day they’ll have to shut it off for a few hours.”
“It’s never been for this long of a time period, but it is like a frequent issue that I would say happens, like, at least once a week,” added the female neighbor. “Especially when it’s colder out.”
According to an email obtained by News10NBC, the water was stopped due to extremely cold temperatures causing multiple pipes to burst. News10NBC reached out to the Venue II’s management team for comment and was directed to their owners, Eagle Rock Properties on Long Island. However, we have not yet received a response.
In the meantime, the complex is providing residents with cases of water. An anonymous neighbor, referred to as Quinn, said they expect more shutoffs. “They sent an email stating that the water was going to be turned on, but then actually shut off again tomorrow, for more repairs,” Quinn said.
Quinn also shared how the outage affected her family. “We have a toddler. She is having a stomach virus or food poisoning, so this has affected us greatly because we have no running water to wash her off, when she, this might sound really gross, spews out of both ends,” she said.
