Fast break
Why the Buffs won: Defense and rebounding. The Buffs out-rebounded the Wildcats 41-33 and were particularly strong on the offensive glass, turning 16 offensive boards into 15 second-chance points. They also held K-State to 16-of-49 (32.7%) shooting.
Three stars:
1. Zyanna Walker: She had her second career double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds), including a career-high in rebounds, as well as four steals against her former team.
2. Logyn Greer: Came off the bench to post 11 points and six rebounds, scoring seven of her points in the fourth quarter.
3. Jade Masogayo: After a quiet first half, she finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Up next: CU continues its trip with a visit to Kansas on Sunday (1 p.m. MT, ESPN+).
MANHATTAN, Kan. – In crunch time on the road this season, the Colorado women’s basketball team has faltered.
On Thursday night, the Buffaloes turned the tide.
Zyanna Walker drilled a clutch 3-pointer midway through the fourth quarter to spark CU down the stretch, as it knocked off host Kansas State 56-47 at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Buffs (14-7, 5-4 Big 12) won on the road for the first time this season and snapped an eight-game road losing streak in conference games after outscoring the Wildcats 18-6 in the last 7 minutes, 5 seconds.
“Lots of different people contributed, as we should,” CU head coach JR Payne said. “In order to try to win a game on the road in the Big 12, everyone’s going to have to do their job really well, and I thought we just executed and did what we needed to do against a really good K-State team.”
Walker, who played at Kansas State the previous two years before transferring to CU, recorded the second double-double of her career, with 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, while also posting four steals.
“I know Zy has a tremendous amount of love for Kansas State and for this program and all of the great wins and success that she had while she was here,” Payne said. “So I think she was very excited to come back to see some teammates and coaches and this environment. But of course, she also wanted to win, so great for her to have the opportunity after a tremendous amount of work she’s poured in. She was injured in the fall and worked very hard to come back. And really great for her to be able to have success in front of her friends and family here in Manhattan.”
Jade Masogayo added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Logyn Greer and Desiree Wooten each had 11 points for the Buffs, who were 0-5 in true road games before Thursday.
In a game that had neither team lead by more than eight in the first three quarters, CU took a 38-33 lead early in the fourth, but Kansas State went on an 8-0 run to go up 41-38 with 7:33 to play.
Greer then got an offensive rebound and put-back, which was followed by a layup from Wooten to put the Buffs back in the lead.
With the game tied at 42-42, Walker hit a 3-pointer with 5:35 to play, fueling a game-changing 7-0 run. Greer added a back-breaking 3-pointer with 1:23 to go and Walker put the game away with a pair of free throws 19 seconds later to cap the scoring.
Colorado’s Jade Masogayo, center, attempts a jump shot against Kansas State’s Jordan Speiser during a game at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kansas, on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026. (CU Athletics)Poor fourth quarters cost the Buffs in losses at Baylor, Oklahoma State and Central Florida earlier this season. In this one, the Buffs outshot (42.9% to 33.3%) and outrebounded (10-5) the Wildcats in the final quarter to pull away.
“I thought our execution was really good,” Payne said. “I think we have a really unselfish group. You can tell kind of by the scoring: it’s very balanced. Every night, we don’t really have a 20-point scorer, but we got a bunch of 10-point scorers. We love to share the ball and I thought we did that. We scored in a handful of different ways, executed, knocked down a couple shots which always helps, and yeah, just unselfish play, I think.”
