Roads in suburban Will County Tuesday morning were closed after a “major motor vehicle crash,” the Manhattan Fire Protection District said, with officials asking drivers to look for alternate routes as an investigation continues.
The Manhattan Fire Protection District posted about the crash, at the intersection of West Wilmington-Peotone Road and South 104th Avenue at about 6:37 a.m. Tuesday.
“Current road conditions are slick, and drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and drive with extreme caution if traveling nearby,” the post said.
At 7:41 a.m., the Will County Sheriff’s Office also posted about the closure, and that Will County Deputies were on scene.
“The roadway will be closed during the investigation between Center Rd and Rt. 45,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please find an alternate route if traveling in the area. During your commute this morning, please be cautious of stretches of road with drifting snow.”
The crash comes after the National Weather Service warned that gusty snow showers and blowing, drifting snow Tuesday morning could lead to hazardous road conditions with low visibility.
