ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The area-wide snow is long gone, but the lake effect behind it is persisting. A Yellow Alert remains up through Monday evening for minor additional accumulations, along with biting cold. Temperatures slowly fall into the single digits Monday night, and a gusty wind at times will make it feel even colder. Cold Weather Advisories (for wind chill) are posted for Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming Counties, where wind chill values will drop to -10 to -15° into Tuesday morning. With the constant cold, sidewalks and driveways will remain slick, so watch your step if you’re out and about. Road conditions will also change within areas of lake effect snow.
Lake snow lifts north overnight, leaving much of the area with quieter but cold conditions into Tuesday. Some lake flakes will develop off of Lake Erie as the wind shifts out of the southwest. Some minor snow is likely, but with Lake Erie now becoming more frozen over, the accumulation becomes more limited. Temperatures on Tuesday will hold in the teens once again. In fact, the cold will continue all of this week, with highs in the teens and lows in the single digits much of the time. The winds will be shifting around, which will spray the area with bouts of lake snow showers, but will also limited any big accumulations. Still expect changing road conditions throughout the week. We’ll monitor for any potential impacts during busy times on the road, but for now we’ll be back to “green” on the Threat Tracker for the rest of the week.
Looking ahead to the weekend, there are some signs that another coastal storm may develop by late Saturday or Sunday. At this point, the track of any potential storm appears too far away for big impacts, but it is still very early, so we’ll just monitor the trend of the track and monitor for any shifts closer to us.
