Former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers will interview for the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching vacancy, according to a report.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bills will interview Rivers on Friday. Rivers played 3 games for the Indianapolis Colts this season before announcing his retirement. It was his first NFL action since the 2020 season.
Rivers does not have any NFL coaching experience on his résumé, but is currently the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama.

Still, hiring Rivers would be unprecedented in the modern NFL. Per Schefter, no NFL team has hired a head coach on a permanent basis without any prior NFL coaching experience since 1961.
This is a high-stakes hire for the Bills, who will have Super Bowl expectations in 2026 and for the rest of Josh Allen’s prime. Allen will be entering his age-30 season next year and has yet to reach the Super Bowl.
