In a bit of poetic justice, Josh Giddey will seek his vengeance against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night. The Chicago Bulls point guard, who suffered a hamstring strain midway through an ill-fated 136-101 loss to Minnesota last month and had been gone ever since, will be playing on a minutes restriction.
Minnesota, meanwhile, is highly motivated to end a three-game losing skid as its front office and coaches get a chance to scout some of their preferred Bulls trade prospects in person for the last time before the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, and Tre Jones are all said to be on the backcourt creation-deprived Timberwolves’ radar this season. Whether Arturas Karnisovas is willing to surrender any of them for a reasonable price remains to be seen.

Bulls 3-Point Barrage Annihilates Kawhi-Less Clippers 138-110 — January 20, 2026What To Watch For
Every win in the loaded Western Conference is precious. So the fact that the Timberwolves have dropped three in a row means that they have now tumbled into the play-in tournament bracket. This very winnable tilt against Chicago, in Minnesota, represents a key opportunity for the Timberwolves to right the ship a bit. The 37-8 Oklahoma City Thunder are probably uncatchable. But only three games separate the No. 7-seeded Timberwolves from the No. 2-seeded San Antonio Spurs. There’s been a ton of movement here, and all the clubs in this group, not named the Los Angeles Lakers, feel capable of deep playoff runs. Look for Minnesota to come out firing. Rudy Gobert can be pretty solvable the further a team gets into the postseason. But he’s still tough to stop during the regular season, as he continues to make the case for an unprecedented fifth Defensive Player of the Year award in 2025-26. Especially when matched up against a bad defensive center in Nikola Vucevic, the 7-foot-2 Frenchman should feast. By a similar token, Julius Randle has quietly been putting together a campaign for his fourth All-Star bid this season. Look for Billy Donovan to have a quick hook for starting power forward Matas Buzelis if Randle gets going early, with Jalen Smith waiting in the wings. Patrick Williams, unfortunately, is now healthy. He sat out Chicago’s victory against the LA Clippers on Tuesday with a right ankle sprain. As our pals at BlogABull observe, the $90 million 11th man is actually a positive contributor when he either does not play or suits up for less than 10 minutes. Chicago has gone 7-1 in those circumstances. We can only hope he’ll be a healthy scratch for Donovan.fun with arbitrary statistical cut-offs:When Patrick Williams is inactive, receives a DNP, or plays fewer than 10 minutes, the Bulls are 7-1
