Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue received a $241,810 federal grant to fund various training programs, TFR announced last Wednesday.

“It is very exciting to be able to receive this grant,” said Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Chief Mark Delk. “Being able to utilize these trainings for our fire fighters will be life-changing to our department and to our community.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant, which aims to fund “critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance efficiencies and support community resilience,” comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. The grant was established by Congress in 2000.

According to a press release, the funding will be used to train task force leaders, task force safety officers, medical specialists, planning roles, logistics specialists, communications specialists, technical search specialists and rescue specialists.

TFR applied for the grant in 2024. Since then, the AFG program has granted 1,678 awards totaling $291.6 million.
