Adult/Child follows the autobiographical path that Brian Wilson embarked on Love You. The LP was readied for release, but ultimately shelved. The album’s “mixture of big-band pastiche, autobiographical confession, and unabashed eccentricity” confused the label and concerned some of the band's members. The album was stuffed into the Beach Boys’ vault, and that’s where it has stayed for nearly fifty years.
In total, the 73-track collection contains 35 unreleased and 22 newly mixed tracks. The majority of the album sessions (Love You, Adult/Child) are on three LPs, with additional outtakes, alternate mixes, and demos on three CDs (which also include the same tracks as the vinyl). The

Wilson’s primary cause of death was “respiratory arrest,” with sepsis and cystitis listed as contributing factors. Wilson famously struggled with his mental health throughout his life, and in 2024, his family revealed he was diagnosed with dementia and placed under a conservatorship.
