BERKELEY — A man died Monday morning after he was hit by a freight train while walking on railroad tracks in West Berkeley, authorities said.
The coroner’s bureau on Wednesday was trying to confirm the man’s name and notify his relatives.

The man was for some reason walking on railroad tracks when he was struck by a Union Pacific freight train and died instantly, authorities said.
No one on the train was injured.
The man is the second man to be killed by a train in the same area since last month. On Dec. 3, a 31-year-old man was fatally struck by an Amtrak train near Bancroft Way and Fourth street.
