Day 3 of the Chicago Bears offseason. After plowing through the first season of Andor on Disney+, I think I need to pace myself binge-watching shows moving forward this offseason. We’ve got a lot of time to bridge the gap between now and when training camp opens.
Bears General Manager Ryan Poles and Head Coach Ben Johnson will speak to the media at 10 a.m. CT at Halas Hall. We’ll have key quotes and thoughts on what was said throughout the day. I’m still thinking about this Ben Johnson clip from Sunday night:Ben Johnson's opening comments at the postgame presser[image or embed]
— Da Bears (@chicagobearsx.bsky.social) January 18, 2026 at 10:05 PM Wordds from the Bears head coach:“It’s a special group. I said that a few weeks ago. I believe that to my core, that when you’re with a group of men for the last time in the locker room and you know it’s just not going to be the same going forward that … I appreciate all of them, the men and the women, coaches, players, support staff, everybody that had a role this season. It was a special year. This will be hopefully a feeling in this locker room that we won’t forget, and we’ll be able to use it as fuel going forward.”
Did this season have the happy eneding folks were hoping to get? No. But that doesn’t mean this year was an abject failure. Not only were the Bears entertaining to watch on a weekly basis, you saw growth from key players who figure to be fixtures on the next great Chicago football teams in the years to come. I know development isn’t linear. And no American pro sports league has more year-to-year randomness than the NFL. But this team set a nice foundation from which to build on moving forward. I hope everyone takes advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | Blue Sky
Patrick FInley (Sun-Times) writes about the culture shift that has come to Halas Hall with Ben Johnson’s arrival. A franchise that spent the 2024 season in disarray due to dysfunction, hiring Johnson as its new head coach has brought stability, respectability, a sense of direction, and newfound feelings of purpose. The vibe change is undeniable. This 3-minute clip from Rich Eisen is the message I need Bears fans to see: It is impossible not to feel good about the Bears after watching that clip. And if you don’t, then perhaps it is time to look inward and try and get in touch with your feelings with how they relate to your favorite teams.PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is a finalist for the Alan Page Community Award, which is neat:With thousands of fan votes and input from an external committee across sports, media, and labor, we’ve narrowed this season’s 18 #CommunityMVPs down to five finalists for the NFLPA’s top honor — the Alan Page Community Award.Congrats to our five finalists:? — NFLPA (@NFLPA) January 20, 2026 The Green Bay Packers search for a new defensive coordinator is underway. Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon is a candidate who will interview with Green Bay for its DC gig after completing an interview with the Dallas Cowboys for the same position. The Packers also reportedly have assistant coaches Christian Parker (Eagles) and Daronte Jones (Vikings) on their interview list. I’m still holding out hope that Green Bay doesn’t snatch Bears DBs Coach Al Harris with a promotion. I’m sure Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur would love nothing more than to weaken the NFC North squad that knocked him out of the playoffs. ESPN’s Nate Taylor writes about how the projected reunion of Eric Bieniemy (who appears to be leaving his post as the Bears RBs coach) and Andy Reid with the Kansas City Chiefs can pave the way for a rejuvenated offense. It feels odd that Kansas City didn’t waste much time in finding Nagy’s replacement. Reading that story makes me wonder if there was any fallout with Matt Nagy, whose contract the Chiefs let expire. (Photo by Dustin Bradford/Getty Images) Unless Mike McDaniel unexpectedly gets a head-coaching gig, things are lined up for him to join the Los Angeles Chargers as their new offensive coordinator. This news came shortly after McDaniel withdrew his name from consideration to become the next Cleveland Browns head coach. I don’t blame him for choosing a plum offensive play-calling job working with quarterback Justin Herbert, running back Omarion Hampton, and receiver Ladd McConkey. The dynamic between McDaniel and Jim Harbaugh might be odd, but I’ll bet it’ll be fun.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
