Sport by : (Inside sport) -

There is hardly any doubt that Harry Brook is one of the most talented young cricketers in the world right now. He is in fact the ODI skipper for England at just 26. So, of course there is an added responsibility on his shoulders, not just for his showing on the field, but off it too.

But then last year, he was involved in an altercation with a nightclub bouncer in New Zealand last year. He had later aplogised for the incident, and thought that it had brought embarrassment to his team. Now, ENG start their ODI series vs SL on Thursday, and questions surrounding the incident were asked too.

Harry Brook ‘Lucky’

He revealed, that though stepping down from captaincy was not on his mind, but being sacked as the captain, did not cross his mind. “I left that decision to the hierarchy, and look, if they’d have sacked me from being captain, then I’d have been perfectly fine with it — as long as I was still playing cricket for England,” he said.

Says Sorry to Teammates

Upon being asked, if he considers himself lucky to be still the skipper, he said, “Probably slightly, yeah. But like I say, even if I had been sacked, I’d have held my hands up and said, ‘Look, I’ve made the mistake,’ and I’d have been perfectly fine with getting sacked from the job as captain, as long as I was still playing cricket.”

Harry Brook also revealed that he even said sorry to his teammates for his behaviour, after landing in Sri Lanka. “I think I’ve got a little bit of work to do to try and regain the trust of the players,” he said. “I felt like I needed to say sorry for my actions. It’s not acceptable as a player, but as a captain it’s really not acceptable to do what I did in New Zealand. I’ll be the first person to say that. I hold my hands up.”
