Ben Affleck Tells Michael Jordan Stories You Need to Hear, 20th Win! Bears Appreciation, and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Even though the Chicago Bulls won last night, the city of Chicago isn’t exactly celebrating. And no—it’s not because the Bulls beat a shorthanded team (though, let’s be honest, that does mean very little). It’s because the dream-like season of the Chicago Bears came to an end.

We may be Bulls writers here, but we can still appreciate what we witnessed. So I won’t cry because it’s over, I’ll smile because it happened.

Now, back to the hardwood.

Let’s talk Bulls basketball.

With a dominant win over a shorthanded Brooklyn Nets, the Chicago Bulls picked up their 20th win of the season. Unfortunately, they’re still right on track for the same season we’ve seen before, last year, the year before that, and the year before that. This was a game against the Nets’ C-team, so there honestly isn’t much to take away from it. That said, one thing was worth noting: the new starting lineup of Coby White, Isaac Okoro, Matas Buzelis, Jalen Smith, and Nikola Vučević. Smith has been playing really well, and with Tre Jones back at the helm, the second unit clearly benefited.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) January 18, 2026 The real fun will begin when Billy Donovan is forced to make the tough decision of what lineup he rolls out once Josh Giddey returns. Giddey was assigned to the Windy City Bulls and then recalled after an impressive showing in five-on-five practice, and the belief is he could be back as early as next week. When Josh does return, he’ll have some fun pieces to work with, because with everyone healthy, the Bulls shot the lights out at the United Center, last night.

Donovan said Giddey’s practice went well. It’s Giddey’s first 5-on-5 since suffering his hamstring strain on 12/29. Window of availability opens this week. t.co/Glsnh5TPxl

— K.C. Johnson (@KCJHoop) January 18, 2026 Also at the United Center last night were a group of well-dressed men repping the Chicago Bears. Ayo Dosunmu, Matas Buzelis, Patrick Williams, and even Benny the Bull were all showing love for their inter-city counterparts. Unfortunately, despite that beautiful Caleb Williams touchdown pass, the final result still wasn’t favorable.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) January 19, 2026 The Bulls were the subject of a lot of podcast chatter last week. On Up & Adams with Kay Adams, guest Kevin Durant talked about the big dunk he threw down against Chicago.

— Houston Rockets (@HoustonRockets) January 14, 2026 “It’s just an efficient shot,” KD said. “It’s like the tush push—you know it’s going in.” He also called it a “good business decision” by the Bulls to move out of the way, saying there was no chance they were “stopping” him. “It’s like a quick shot of espresso,” Durant added. “Once you dunk, you give energy to the whole team.”

— Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) January 15, 2026 Ben Affleck was a guest on the All the Smoke podcast with Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, and spent a lot of time talking about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Honestly, there was so much good stuff that I can’t hit everything—but here are the best moments, according to me. For starters, Ben Affleck has Michael Jordan as his GOAT, followed by LeBron James and then Kobe Bryant. He did hesitate a bit between LeBron and Kobe, but Jordan was firmly at the top.

— All the Smoke (@allthesmokeprod) January 17, 2026 Ben Affleck also directed and starred in the film Air, which tells the story of Nike convincing Michael Jordan to sign with them. Michael was consulted during the process and was willing to talk about the moments he was actually present for—not the ones merely about him. “I can only tell you what I was there for and what I know to be true,” Jordan said, as relayed by Affleck. Ben added that Jordan spoke extensively about the influence of his parents and Howard White in the decision, and even personally requested that Viola Davis play his mother, a pitch that was pretty easy to sell once it came directly from Michael himself.

— All the Smoke (@allthesmokeprod) January 15, 2026 Ben Affleck also explained why Michael Jordan never actually appears as a character in Air. “I’m not going to put you in the movie because you’re such an icon that the second I show someone and say, ‘that’s Michael Jordan,’ everyone’s just going to say, ‘no it isn’t,’” Affleck said. He added that no one could truly be like Mike, but if he absolutely had to cast someone, his choice would be Michael B. Jordan. I wonder why him… do they have something in common? A modern-day mystery, for sure.
