Fire rips through northwest suburban bakery, pet boutique ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

A fire heavily damaged a building that houses a bakery and pet boutique in northwest suburban McHenry on Sunday, city officials stated.

Mayor Wayne Jett said in a Facebook post a fire caused “significant damage” to Riverside Bakery and Reese’s Barkery and Pawtique.

Photos captured at the scene and posted on social media showed a large emergency response and heavy smoke near Riverside Drive and Elm Street, where the fire originated. As of Sunday night, a potential cause hadn’t been released.

The mayor said he reached out to both businesses to offer help with rebuilding or relocating.

Reese’s Barkery, in a Facebook post, said its team was safe, and they were still determining the extent of the damage.

“This place is more than a store to us,” the post read, in part. “It is something we built with love, community, and a whole lot of heart…”

The business’ complete statement can be found below:

“This is one of the hardest updates we have ever had to share.

There was a fire in the building where Reeses is located. We are still learning the extent of the damage, and honestly, our hearts are broken. This place is more than a store to us. It is something we built with love, community, and a whole lot of heart.

Most importantly, our team is safe. We cannot say that enough, and we are incredibly grateful for that.

We want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of the fire departments and first responders who showed up and worked tirelessly. Your quick response, care, and compassion mean more than we can put into words.

We know so many of you depend on Reeses for your pets, and please know this, we will not leave our community without support. We understand that Barrington is a drive for many, but once open, you are welcome to come there for food and essentials. We are also committed to offering delivery or meeting locally whenever we can.

If you need food or essentials for your pets, please call our Emergency Food Line at 815-354-3522. This will help us make sure no one is left without what they need.

Right now, we are taking things one step at a time. We ask for patience, grace, and maybe a few extra hugs. Thank you for being the incredible community that you are. We will keep you updated as we learn more.”
