Alabama sweated out an 83-81 victory at Oklahoma on Saturday, winning back-to-back games to improve to 13-5 overall and 3-2 in the SEC.
After the Crimson Tide’s Amari Allen made one of his two free throws with seconds remaining, the Sooners had a chance to win. But Nijel Pack’s potential game-winning three-pointer hit off the back of the rim as the Tide held on.
Alabama and Oklahoma were tied 33-33 with just over four minutes remaining in the first half after a Houston Mallette dunk. That was the Tide’s last field goal of the half as the Sooners closed things out with an 11-0 run to go into the locker room up 44-33.
The Tide, though, scored the first 12 points of the second half to take a 45-44 lead with 17:32 left in regulation. After the Sooners opened up a seven-point lead, though, the teams went back and forth before Oklahoma went up 73-67 with 4:51 left. A 9-2 run, though, gave the Tide a 76-75 lead with a shade under two minutes left after a Mallette make from three.
That gave Alabama the lead for good, despite the Sooners staying within arm’s length.
Labaron Philon Jr. scored 23 points, while Aiden Sherrell added 21. Xzayvier Brown led the Sooners with 21 points.
Oklahoma has now lost four games in a row.
