Boise State pulled away in the final minutes to defeat the Colorado State men’s basketball team, 79-73, late Friday night in Boise, Idaho.
The loss was the fifth in the Rams’ past seven games, as they fell to 11-7 overall and 2-5 in the Mountain West Conference.
CSU trailed 39-30 at halftime and by as many as 12 five minutes into the second half before making a run. The Rams took their first lead of the game when Brandon Rechsteiner made a 3-pointer to give CSU a 55-54 edge with just over nine minutes remaining in the contest.
The game was tied at 57 when the Broncos began to pull away again. Boise State went on a 13-2 run to go ahead 70-59 with 3:22 remaining. While the Rams made one last run to get within five points with a minute left, they couldn’t catch the Broncos in the end.
Rashaan Mbemba, making his second start since returning from an injury, joined Rechsteiner in leading CSU with 17 points apiece. Kyle Jorgensen played in his first game after missing six contests with an injury and scored three points.
Boise State led the entire first half, by as few as one point and as many as 11.
Josh Pascarelli added 10 points for CSU, which shot 48.9% for the game and made 14 of 25 3-pointers. They also went 13-for-14 from the free throw line.
Boise State won the rebounding battle, 28-26, and the Rams turned the ball over 15 times.
The Rams will be back in action Tuesday when they return to Moby Arena to face Air Force.
