Prime Video is the destination for movie fans in January due to its enviable selection of new hits and classic films.
The streamer recently added a new batch of titles this month, and Watch With Us is here to tell you which ones are worth streaming.
The sci-fi hit Alien: Romulus is the best film in the long-running franchise since the ‘80s, while rom-coms fans will fall in love with the classic Along Came Polly all over again.
Prime Video subscribers should also check out Burn After Reading, one of Brad Pitt’s most underrated films.
‘Alien: Romulus’ (2024)
In the distant future, Rain Carradine (Cailee Spaeny) and a motley space crew travel to the abandoned ship Romulus to retrieve equipment necessary for them to travel across space. But they get more than they bargained for when they discover the ship is infested with aliens — and not just any aliens, but Xenomorphs. With acid for blood and an unstoppable lust for destruction, these creatures are hard to kill, as Rain and her crew quickly find out. With supplies dwindling and the oxygen running out, can they somehow defeat these aliens and abandon the Romulus before it’s too late?
5 Best New Movies to Stream This Weekend (January 16-18): ‘The Rip' and More
The seventh film in the long-running sci-fi franchise, Alien: Romulus was a late summer hit in 2024. A big reason why is that it’s not weighed down by much of the franchise’s lore; instead, it goes back to what made the original Alien so effective in the first place — an emphasis on suspense and tension rather than blood, gore and overcomplicated VFX. Spaeny shines as Rain, who is about as different from Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley as you can get, while The Long Walk’s David Jonsson steals the show as an empathetic android who holds the key to defeating the Xenomorphs.
Alien: Romulus is streaming on Prime Video.
‘Along Came Polly’ (2004)
Reuben Feffer (Ben Stiller) is a little depressed — you would be too if you caught your fiancée having an affair on your honeymoon. His spirits only perk up when he runs into Polly (Jennifer Aniston), a free-spirited woman he once went to school with. After going on a couple of dates with her, Reuben starts to fall hard for Polly, who isn’t so sure she wants a long-term relationship. Can Reuben convince her he’s the one? Or will Polly drift out of his life as quickly as she burst back into it?
Along Came Polly is a good example of how well mid-budget rom-coms were made 20 years ago. It polishes off well-worn tropes like the kooky girlfriend (Polly) and the nerdy lead protagonist (Reuben) and makes them seem new again. Stiller and Aniston generate some real sparks as the mismatched couple, while Philip Seymour Hoffman steals the whole movie as Reuben’s basketball-playing best friend, Sandy.
Along Came Polly is streaming on Prime Video.
‘Burn After Reading’ (2009)
No one makes great comedies about dumb people quite like the Coen Brothers. After Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski, their best one is probably Burn After Reading, a screwball crime tale about stupid people doing stupid things for a lot of money. Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand) and Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt) are gym employees who use every muscle they have except their brains. When they find a mysterious disc belonging to CIA employee Osborne Cox (John Malkovich), they offer to return it to him for a price. So begins a chain of events that involves Russian spies, the FBI, a philandering husband with the hots for Linda and a guy who murders someone with an axe.
3 Prime Video Movie Masterpieces You Need to Watch in January 2026
Burn After Reading is a wild, unpredictable comedy that throws one curveball after another at you. No one’s really sympathetic and even the authorities in charge don’t know much more than the dim-witted blackmailers they’re chasing. The result is a movie that doesn’t amount to much, which is not only the point of Burn After Reading, but its main punchline.
Burn After Reading is streaming on Prime Video.
