The singer confirmed that Rival Sons plan to record a new album after time in the studio later this year, even as he prepares to release his first solo record, Weapons of Beauty, on Feb. 6.
The update surfaced after an Instagram post shared highlights from Buchanan’s recent interview with Eddie Trunk. In the conversation, Buchanan reflected on his long career, recent performances, and what comes next for both his solo work and Rival Sons, a band that rose to prominence in the early 2010s and helped bring classic-style rock back to a new generation.

“We’re gonna be getting into the studio and recording another record,” Buchanan said. “And then, of course, we have touring through the summer… I’m looking forward to getting into the studio, just like regular old operations.”

“We take our time,” he said, explaining that the band now writes material ahead of studio sessions while still leaving room for spontaneous ideas once recording begins.
“I’m gonna take care of my wife and get her through this,” Buchanan said in interview with Steve Harkins of TalkShopLive's Rock 'N' Roll Channel. “This is where I belong right now.”
While Rival Sons' plans are being pieced together, Buchanan’s solo project is already set. Weapons of Beauty arrives Feb. 6 through Sacred Tongue Records via Thirty Tigers. The album marks a quieter, more reflective turn compared to the band’s loud, riff-driven sound.
The solo release does not replace the band. Instead, it shows another side of Buchanan as a songwriter. He has said the timing simply felt right after years of touring and recording with Rival Sons.
Buchanan recalled a backstage atmosphere with no egos, just shared respect, hugs and encouragement. Seeing old friends and heroes, including people he grew up with in California, made the day emotional and unforgettable. As Buchanan prepares for the release of Weapons of Beauty and looks ahead to Rival Sons’ next chapter, one thing is clear: the rock star is not choosing between solo work and his 2010s band.
