‘Several rounds of snow' in the Chicago forecast over the next few days. What to expect and when ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Multiple rounds of snow were in the Chicago-area forecast over the next several days as a series of clipper systems moves through, the NBC 5 Storm Team said, including the chance for snow sticking around during Sunday’s NFL Divisional Round playoff game at Soldier Field between the Bears and the Rams.

“We’re just going to see several rounds of snow,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Alicia Roman said, starting with Thursday night.

The snowy weather comes as parts of northwest Indiana remains under winter storm warning and weather advisory, with as much as eight inches or more of lake effect snow possible before lunchtime if a plume of snow hovering near LaPorte County moves west.

“Roads will be snow-covered and hazardous,” the National Weather Service warned, with the worst conditions expected during the Thursday morning commute near the Porter and LaPorte County lines.

If the lake effect plume does make a westward path, it could bring snow as far as Jasper County, with rapid changes in weather, visibility and road conditions. If it doesn’t, that part of northern Indiana may not see much at all.

“Eight inches of snow, or maybe not,” Roman said. “You how how that lake effect snow works.”

Snow on the way for Illinois

Meanwhile, northeast Illinois Thursday for the most part was expected to remain dry, with some sunshine and cold temperatures in the 20s. By about 4 p.m., a clipper system will move in and last through the afternoon and evening commute, with scattered, area-wide accumulating snow up to two inches.

Accumulating snow is expected tonight, developing after sunset and continuing past sunrise Friday. Amounts of around an inch to locally 2 inches are expected. This may lead to slippery road conditions overnight and Friday morning. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/M1xpA7ePg5

That system was expected to linger into early Friday, continuing for the morning commute, Roman said.

Temperatures Friday will increase into the 30s, Roman said, with another system bringing more snow chances overnight. That round is followed by another bout of snow Saturday night and into Sunday, with lingering snow through the day.

“It may still be around for the Bears game,” Roman said, with snow showers still expected around 4 p.m. According to Roman, temperatures will feel in the single digits for kick-off at 5:30 p.m.

Frigid temperatures

Friday’s warm-up in the 30s won’t last long.

Temperatures were expected to be in the teens Saturday and Sunday, Roman said, followed by a high of 14 degrees for Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday.
