An “issue” with Verizon’s wireless voice and data services left tens of thousands of customers in Chicago and several other U.S. cities without the ability to make calls or send texts throughout the day Wednesday.
Reports of a Verizon outage skyrocketed around 11 a.m., with more than 180,000 reports nationwide by 11:40 a.m., according to DownDetector.
Reports were made in several cities across the U.S., including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C., according to DownDetector. Several comments on DownDetector state customers around the country were unable to place calls or send text messages.
Just after noon Wednesday, Verizon said they were “aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers,” and company engineers were working to identify and solve the issue.
Hours later, around 3:15 p.m., Verizon issued an update, adding that their team is “on the ground actively working to fix today’s service issue.”
Verizon has not provided any additional information regarding when service will be back to normal or what caused the “issue.”
