A man was in critical condition after being shot in the head while driving in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood Tuesday, with a large police presence on scene and Chicago police cars blocking some streets.
About 8:40 a.m., a 31-year-old man was driving northbound in the 2700 block of South Ridgeway Avenue when he was struck in the head by gunfire, police said. The man then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a car parked closeby.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he was last listed in critical condition. No other injuries were reported, police said, and the suspect or suspects fled the scene.
Sky 5 video from above the scene showed a large police presence, with law enforcement vehicles blocking off parts of the intersection. Red police tape could be seen covering some streets, including near the Little Village Academy Elementary School at 2620 S. Lawndale Ave.
No one was in custody, police said, and detectives were investigating.
Chicago Public Schools did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
