New LSU coach Lane Kiffin has found his quarterback Monday morning after a long and winding road through the transfer portal, reportedly earning a commitment from former Arizona State standout Sam Leavitt.
On3 reported that Leavitt committed to LSU after a weekend visit to Baton Rouge, and did so after also fielding overtures from Kentucky, Tennessee and Miami. Leavitt has two seasons of remaining eligibility.
Leavitt entered the transfer portal after a 2025 season at Arizona State that was derailed by an ankle injury. He appeared in seven games and was 145-of-239 passing for 1,628 yards and 10 TDs with three interceptions. Leavitt led the Sun Devils to the Big 12 championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff in 2024, throwing for 2,885 yards and 24 TDs against just six interceptions while also rushing for 443 yards and five touchdowns.
Leavitt was primed to hit the transfer portal after both the injury and comments from Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham – who wished Dillingham well at the team’s end-of-year banquet that Leavitt did not attend.
The Sun Devils moved quickly in the transfer portal earlier this month, securing former Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley. Arizona State finished 8-5 in 2025, including a 42-39 loss to Duke in the Sun Bowl.
