ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Jamie Busch, accused of killing her sister, Penny Busch, and dumping the body in the Genesee River, was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Busch, 53, faced charges of murder and tampering with evidence. Police said she strangled her sister, Penny, in Honeoye Falls before disposing of her body in 2024. Investigators reported that the sisters lived together and it all started with a fight between them.
Murder victim Penny Busch (provided photo)The case started as a missing person report in October 2024. Deputies say she was last seen leaving her home on October 6. MCSO later did a welfare check at the home on October 11, but no one answered the door and deputies were suspicious. They found her body in the river on October 14.
Penny had two sisters and two children.

Busch’s trial was set to start next month. She was expected in court on Monday for a Molineaux hearing to determine if evidence of prior uncharged crimes would be allowed in the trial, officials said.

As of October 2024, Busch worked at Honeoye Falls-Lima School District, and the district put out a statement after she was arrested saying in part:
“As a school district that prioritizes the safety of our students, staff, and community, we placed the individual on leave and fully cooperated with law enforcement during their investigation. For any inquiries related to this matter, we direct you to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.”
