THE GREATEST COMEBACK EVER: Bears 31, Packers 27 ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The Chicago Bears just authored the greatest comeback in the franchise’s history — and they took down the Green Bay Packers in the process. Can you believe it?

FINAL: Chicago Bears 31, Green Bay Packers 27 (ESPN BOX SCORE)

In case you missed it, this was the game-winning touchdown pass from Caleb Williams to DJ Moore…

Seriously, you just watched The Greatest Comeback in Chicago Bears Playoff History™️. In a year where the Bears rewrote the record books throughout the regular season, who knew they had another one left in them in the postseason?

Thoughts on another miraculous Bears win

If you don’t know, now you know: Caleb Williams is him. He is the one who was promised. His second-half numbers on Saturday night against the Packers: 16/31, 283 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 91.2 passer rating. It was hard to imagine this coming after watching Williams post a woeful first-half line (8/17, 78 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 35.9 rating). But this is why you can’t turn off the TV when this team is playing. They’re the “too much time left on the clock” team. They’re the team with the dream-killing quarterback. I’ve been on the other side of that ledger for so many years watching Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers deliver daggers. Now, it’s Caleb’s turn. This is literally the greatest comeback in Bears franchise history:

Per ESPN Research: the Bears are only the fourth team in postseason history to win a playoff game when trailing by 15+ points in the fourth quarter

— Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) January 11, 2026

Entering 2025, teams had lost 135 consecutive games when trailing by 15-or-more points after 3 quarters, including postseason. There were 5 such wins this season, most in NFL history. Add another one tonight.

— Michael Signora (@NFLfootballinfo) January 11, 2026 Ben Johnson came into Chicago boasting about how much he enjoyed beting Matt LaFleur twice a year. And in Year 1 as the Bears head coach, he did it. LaFleur had lost just one game against the Bears in his coaching career coming into this season. He has since lost twice to them since the start of December. Blowing an 18-point lead in a road playoff game is the type of thing that will lead to a “mutual parting of ways” tweet by an NFL insider like ESPN’s Adam Schefter, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport or Tom Pelissero, or possibly even The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. But we can cross that bridge when we get to it. Right now? We need to acknowledge that the Bears have a real one as head coach. Again, this isn’t something we are used to experiencing. So soak it all in tonight. What a graphic:

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 11, 2026 There are a lotta sneaky MVPs in this one, including rookie tight end Colston Loveland. The Michigan product had an all-time game as he turned 15 targets into 8 receptions and 137 yards. He helped move the chains on several possessions, and even sprung a block on a touchdown. To go from where he was early in the season playing on just 54.8 percent of the offensive snaps in the team’s first two games back in September to being a key piece and a trusted target for Williams in January is unlike anything I’ve seen from a Bears rookie. We need to have some conversations about Dennis Allen, but not right now. Instead, let’s give credit where it’s due after Chicago’s defensive coordinator made halftime adjustments that helped keep this game within arm’s reach. The Eberflus years conditioned us to expect a defense to roll over and play dead. But this group didn’t do that. Sure, getting a stop felt impossible after Packers quarterback Jordan Love led Green Bay to touchdown drives on each of the offense’s first three possessions. But a defense finished with just one sack came up with 8 quarterback hits and 7 pass breakups. Each and every one of those moments counted. And a lot of it happened after injuries to linebacker T.J. Edwards and defensive lineman Andrew Billings. DJ Moore really went from not playing in a playoff game since he was a senior in high school to catching the game-winning touchdown against the Packers in his first-ever NFL playoff game. Game highlights

Some of my favorite plays include an Olamide Zaccheaus touchdown, Austin Booker sack, Devin Duvernay return, a whale of a catch by DJ Moore:

Three Bears

Let’s talk about key players from this game…

Caleb Williams — The fourth-quarter numbers for Chicago’s QB1: 195 passing yards, 2 touchdown passes, 0 intereptions, and a 110.0 passer rating. This is what you signed up for as a Bears fan when the front office didn’t take the mythical haul for the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This is what you signed up for when this team jettisoned Justin Fields in a trade while most of you were out enjoying St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans in downtown Chicago. The Iceman has arrived. And his name is Caleb Williams.

Cairo Santos — What a night for one of the most-maligned members of this team. Santos made all three of his field goals and both of his extra points. On a cold January night that featured weird winds and Green Bay’s kicker (Brandon McManus) missing both of his field goal tries and an extra point, Cairo Santos was a perfect 3-for-3 with a 51-yarder. We’ll have a Cairo appreciation post at some point tomorrow.

Ben Johnson — He talked the talk in January 2025. He walked the walk less than a calendar year later.

WHAT’S NEXT: Another home game at Soldier Field.
