Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Samantha Anderson from Manhasset, New York, has verbally committed to swim and study at the University of Arizona beginning in the 2026-27 school year. She announced the news on SwimCloud with a brief “Go Cats!”

Anderson is a senior at Manhasset Senior High School, where she has been a member of the school’s varsity swim team since her freshman year. She also swims year-round with Long Island Aquatic Club, and specializes in the middle-distance and distance freestyle events.

She’s on a strong improvement curve, having dropped time in all of her primary events each season of her career. In the past 12 months alone, she’s cut over 10 seconds in the mile (16:48.45 to 16:38.30), 5.57 seconds in the 500 (4:56.65 to 4:51.08), half a second in the 200 free (1:51.18 to 1:50.68), and over three tenths in the 100 (52.15 to 51.80).

Anderson has been a model of consistency at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) State Championships, going eight-for-eight in making ‘A’ finals in the 200 and 500 freestyles.

She placed 8th in the 200 free (1:54.16) and 6th in the 500 free (5:01.76) as a freshman, then improved to seventh in the 200 free (1:52.15) while maintaining her sixth-place finish in the 500 free (4:59.18) as a sophomore. As a junior, she finished eighth in the 200 free (1:53.29) and sixth in the 500 free (4:58.88). This past November, she had her best showing to date, earning bronze in the 200 free with her current best time of 1:50.68 and touching fifth in the 500 free (4:55.81).

Her best meet to date was last March’s edition of NCSAs, where she took fourth in the 1000 free, fifth in the 1650 free, and 11th in the 500 free, all with her current lifetime bests. She is a seven-time NCSA meet qualifier and, prior to 2025, had racked up eight other top-16 showings. She twice finished as runner-up in the 1500m free at long-course editions.

Outside of NCSAs, Anderson has also qualified for U.S. Open and Summer Junior Nationals. She most recently competed at the U.S. Open, held in long course, where she touched 12th in the 800 free (9:06.05) and 8th in the 1500 free (17:32.27), both in season-best times. She set personal bests in the 800 and 500 free at Junior Nationals in July, where she placed 14th in the 800 (8:53.09), 25th in the 1500 free (17:15.02), and 52nd in the 500 free (4:24.10).

The Arizona women, in their second season under head coach Ben Loorz, finished second at the 2025 Big 12 Championships with 1,240 points, 455 points behind conference champions Arizona State. The Wildcat women went on to finish 29th at the NCAA Championships, where they accumulated 20 points. That was a huge improvement from 2024, when they went scoreless.

Anderson is slated to make an immediate impact at the conference level. Based on last season’s results, her best times would have placed her fifth in the 1650 and eighth in the 500. It took times of 50.48 and 1:49.72 to make the ‘C’ finals of the 100 and 200 free, respectively.

On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, she would have ranked second in the 1650, third in the 500, ninth in the 200, and 12th in the 100. She’ll be valuable in the distance events at dual meets and could work her way onto the team’s 800 free relay over the next few years.

While the team’s best all-around distance swimmer, Malia Rausch, is graduating in May, Anderson will overlap one season with Ava Sutphin, who owns times of 4:50.67 and 16:34.74 in the 500 and 1650 free.

Anderson will join a strong group of middle-distance and distance swimmers in the Wildcats’ class of 2030. Kingsley Rosevold (1:50.76/4:51.69/17:06.95) and Lucy Flynn (1:49.67/4:47.57/16:39.80) hold similar personal bests; the trio should make great training partners over their four years together.

The recruiting class also includes Madison Ensing, who has posted a 1:50.03 in the 200 free but focuses more on sprint free, and Macey deGroot (1:50.49), who is also more sprint free/back-oriented. Rounding out the class are Lyla Lusk (back) and Pilar King (sprint free/fly/back).
