Ranking the 5 best SEC transfer additions (so far) ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

The 2026 transfer portal has been open for a little over a week.

SEC teams have already begun to make big moves, although some of the top prospects in this portal cycle — such as Cam Coleman and Sam Leavitt — have yet to commit to a new program.

There are still many dominos to fall, but let’s dive into the 5 best SEC transfers (so far) after the first week of this portal window.

SEC best transfers

Here’s the top 5 so far:

1. Byrum Brown, QB, Auburn

As of this writing, Byrum Brown looks like the best transfer portal addition at quarterback for any SEC team. Brown has always been electric as a runner, but he had a career-best season as a passer in 2025 with South Florida. He averaged an impressive 9.3 yards per attempt and brought his passer efficiency rating all the way up to 167.1. That’s good enough for 6th nationally among qualified quarterbacks. That’s all in addition to rushing for over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns in 12 games.

Whether or not Brown can scale up his production against SEC defenses is to be determined. However, I’m optimistic he’ll be able to based on the continuity that he’ll have. At Auburn, Brown is joined by his South Florida head coach (Alex Golesh) and offensive coordinator (Joel Gordon) as well as former teammates such as receiver Keshaun Singleton.

2. Jacarrius Peak, OL, South Carolina

Jacarrius Peak is arguably the best offensive lineman to enter the transfer portal so far this offseason. Peak has started at offensive tackle in most of NC State’s games over the last 3 seasons and became one of the nation’s best lineman in 2025.

Per PFF, Peak earned a pass blocking grade of 83.7 for the 2025 campaign. In 456 pass blocking snaps, Peak allowed just 13 pressures and 3 sacks the entire season. He’ll now head to South Carolina to protect LaNorris Sellers’ blindside and figures to be a major upgrade at left tackle for the Gamecocks in 2026.

3. Carius Curne, OL, Ole Miss

Ole Miss pulled off a huge acquisition of freshman offensive lineman Carius Curne this week. Curne played both tackle spots for LSU this fall and acquitted himself well considering he was a class of 2025 signee. Per PFF, Curne played 306 snaps this season for the Tigers, with 215 of them coming at left tackle.

Curne was the No. 71 player in the class of 2025, per the 247Sports composite rankings. Listed at 6-5, Curne figures to have a great chance to start games for the Rebels in 2026 at a tackle spot.

4. Jayce Brown, WR, LSU

LSU may not have its quarterback yet, but it does have a top slot receiver for the 2026 season in Jayce Brown. He spent the last 3 seasons at Kansas State and has gone for over 700 yards in back-to-back campaigns. According to Pro Football Focus, Brown lined up in the slot for about 70% of his snaps this fall.

Also per PFF, Brown recorded over 2.9 yards per route run in 2025. That’s very efficient. Among players with at least 65 targets this season, Brown ranked 9th nationally in that category. He’s in the same conversation as players like Jeremiah Smith, Makai Lemon, Mario Craver, Carnell Tate and Duce Robinson — a who’s who of the nation’s top receivers in 2025. Brown has also not been the beneficiary of good QB play in Manhattan (Avery Johnson posted passer efficiency ratings below 135 in each of the past 2 seasons) so he could stand to increase his volume with a better passer in Baton Rouge.

5. Amaris Williams, Edge, Georgia

Amaris Williams is not a household name yet, but he’ll have a chance to make a real impact for Georgia as a pass rusher in 2026. This past fall at Auburn, Williams had a breakout season while playing rotational snaps behind Keldric Faulk. He recorded 6 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and 4 quarterback hurries in just 210 snaps this past season.

Williams doesn’t have the sustained production of some of the names on this list, which is why he lands at No. 5. But he does have multiple years of eligibility remaining and tremendously high upside at a key position. Georgia’s pass rush was a weakness this season and Williams will play a big part in whether or not the Bulldogs can turn things around next fall. He was a consensus top-75 recruit in the nation for the class of 2024.
