ONTARIO COUNTY, N.Y. — The Ontario County Clerk has launched a Fraud Alert Service, letting property owners know whenever a document, such as a deed or mortgage, is recorded in their name.
Ontario County Clerk Jean Chrisman says the alert will send out timely email updates, allowing property owners to review any newly recorded documents. The service is free.
Important documents can be seen online or in person at the Ontario County Clerk’s Office.
“Fraud Alert empowers residents to stay informed and take action if something doesn’t look right,” Chrisman said.
Officials advise reading the alerts carefully to make sure the information about the property is accurate and pertains to them.
