ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills closed out the regular season with a dominant victory over the New York Jets, with running back James Cook clinching the NFL’s rushing title.
Cook led the league with 1,621 rushing yards, beating out Baltimore’s Derrick Henry by 26 yards. He also scored 14 touchdowns and gained another 291 yards through the air.
“Not often do guys get paid and then take their game up to another level,” Joe Brady said. “And look, Jimbo winning the rushing title, it takes all the guys up front that are doing it, the receivers blocking all of that. I couldn’t be happier for him.”
Sean McDermott praised Cook’s achievement, calling it a “huge accomplishment” and a “great honor.” He credited the offensive staff, offensive line, tight ends, wide receivers, quarterback Josh Allen, and other backs for their contributions.
Cook sat out of training camp while negotiating a new contract. He will enter the first year of his four-year contract extension next season.
