Spring-like temps possible in Chicago area this week, along with chances of rain ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

The Chicago area could see temperatures soaring well above their seasonal averages this week, though those readings could come with chances of rain.

That warm-up got underway on Monday, and will continue on Tuesday as readings are expected to increase into the low-to-mid 40s, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.

Those temperatures could be accompanied by multiple chances of rain, with some scattered showers during the morning hours and another round of precipitation possible in the late afternoon and into the evening.

It could be a somewhat foggy start to the day on Wednesday, but the sun is expected to shine brightly for most of the day, with readings rising yet again into the mid-40s, according to forecast models.

A storm system will slowly start pushing into the Chicago area on Thursday, but temperatures are set to be positively balmy for this time of year, as the city of Chicago and some suburbs could see high temperatures in the upper-40s or perhaps even the low-50s, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.

For context, the average temperature in the Chicago area doesn’t start to exceed 50 degrees until the early days of spring in late March, with more typical readings in January usually settling right around the freezing mark, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition to those temperatures, another chance of rain is expected to arrive, with moderate-to-heavy rainfall impacting the region at times as the day moves along.

Some of that rain could linger into Friday, but temperatures are expected to remain above average, with highs in the mid-40s to wrap up the work week.

By Saturday, a mix of rain and snow could enter Chicago’s forecast, and winds will begin to ratchet upwards as a cold front sweeps through the region to drop temperatures back to more seasonable levels.

That mix could transition to all snow, especially in areas west and north of Chicago, and there could be anywhere from a dusting to two inches of snow that falls before the system clears out of the area late Saturday and into Sunday morning.

Once that system exits, temperatures are expected to settle around the freezing mark for highs on Sunday under partly-to-mostly sunny skies.
