D-Rose Day Prep, Are We Giving Up on Patrick Williams? Game Day in Boston, and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Welcome back, Bulls fans. We’re back at it tonight, the first stop on a quick two-game road trip. Tonight’s challengers, the team with the third-best record in the NBA, playing without their franchise superstar, the Boston Celtics. A good old-fashioned rivalry game. Although, considering the fact that over the last decade they’ve doubled our wins head-to-head, I’m not sure rivalry still fits. Anyhoo…

Let’s talk Bulls basketball.

Before we get out our blow torch at the expense of an underwhelming player on the current roster, let’s chat about Derrick Rose. Exactly one year ago yesterday, the Bulls announced “D-Rose Night,” a celebration of the former MVP in the city that loved him so dearly. Watching those clips back still tugs at the heartstrings. It was also the day they announced that, one year later, they would retire his jersey and forever immortalize it in the rafters. PSA: that happens this month!

— Chicago Bulls Archive (@BullsArchive) January 4, 2026 The preparation for D-Rose’s return to the United Center on January 24 is already underway. On the anniversary of D-Rose Night, Foot Locker, in collaboration with Adidas, announced a retro release of the original AdiZero Rose 1 from 2010.

— House of Heat° (@houseofheat) January 2, 2026 Yesterday, on January 4, Chicago hosted D. Rose Day at 1848 S. Blue Island Ave., a fan-focused event celebrating his legacy. A special photo booth let fans snap pictures to show their love for Rose, and each photo counted as an entry to win one of ten spots to attend his jersey-retirement ceremony from a suite at the United Center. Additionally, early Foot Locker reservations for the AdiZero Rose 1 OG were available on-site ahead of the sneaker’s in-store–only launch on Saturday, January 17.

Today #DRoseDay takes place from 1-4 at 1848 S Blue Island. Fans will have a photo opp that enters them into a sweepstakes for VIP tickets to the D Rose retirement. — Modern Notoriety (@ModernNotoriety) January 4, 2026 Tonight, the shorthanded Boston Celtics will host the equally shorthanded Chicago Bulls. The Celtics, however, haven’t looked too bad despite the injuries, with other players stepping up in their absence. In Chicago, that hasn’t exactly been the case. Some players somehow manage to take an even bigger step back when huge opportunities are right in front of them — cough, cough, Patrick Williams. After two rare good performances from Williams, he followed them up with an absolute stinker in the loss to the Hornets. Pat finished with a stat line of 0 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal in 15 minutes of game time. He missed all seven of his shot attempts, five of them from behind the arc.

Patrick Williams had authored strong B2B games but is 0-7 with 3 rebounds in 15 minutes tonight

— K.C. Johnson (@KCJHoop) January 4, 2026 The former fourth overall pick — insane, by the way — who never even started a college game before getting drafted, doesn’t look like he’ll be in consideration for a starting role tomorrow, despite all the injuries the Bulls have racked up. The fourth-highest-paid player on this team will be needed tonight to be a difference-maker against the Celtics if the Bulls have any real desire to win. I wouldn’t count on it, though. A big reason for that is the Bulls’ obsession with offense. On any given night, they try to win by simply outscoring teams. Williams ranks among the league’s least efficient scorers this season —11th from the bottom. With him on the floor, defenses can sag off and focus more on Vucevic, which ends up limiting the offense as a whole.

— Basketball University (@UofBasketball) January 4, 2026 Basketball University also released its list of the worst five-man lineups in the NBA — a mix of net rating and total possessions. The Bulls’ group of Josh Giddey, Tre Jones, Isaac Okoro, Matas Buzelis, and Nikola Vucevic ranks sixth-worst, sitting just behind lineups from the Kings, Pelicans, Grizzlies, and Lakers. The funniest part? There are two Sacramento lineups on that list, both featuring players who were in Chicago not that long ago, doing the exact same thing. The Bulls really do have an eye for struggle.

— Basketball University (@UofBasketball) January 3, 2026 But it hasn’t always looked this bleak. In fact, in a welcome twist, they also released the best Bulls lineups since 2004, and man, do I miss the glory days. The 2012 group with Rose, Deng, Boozer, and Noah absolutely carried the list. Bonus points if you remember the fifth guy in that lineup — drop his name in the comments. They posted the best net rating, the best offense, and the best shooting numbers the Bulls have seen in almost 20 years.
